RESURRECTION FIGHTING ALLIANCE VIII AXS TV MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 6/20/2013 10:35 PM

One of the promotions that is quickly on the rise right now in the Resurrection Fighting Alliance, which returns this Friday Night on AXS TV. There will be two titles on the line, as the first ever RFA Flyweight Champion will be crowned and the featherweight gold will be defended. Also, there will be a quartet of undefeated prospects looking to keep those unblemished records alive in the RFA.

Kicking off the action is a welterweight division fight as Zak Ottow (3-1-0) competes against Matt Gauthier (4-1-0). Ottow will enter the fight riding a three fight winning streak and none of his professional MMA fights have gone past the second round. Gauthier will be looking to rebound from his first professional MMA defeat, which came to Mike Rhodes at Rogue Warriors Championships III. These are two fighters who are on very different streaks right now, but it will be Ottow getting his fourth straight victory.

A featherweight division fight is up next as Dan “The Hitman” Moret (4-0-0) does battle with Jose Pacheco (7-3-1). Moret is currently undefeated as a professional MMA fighter, with three victories coming in at Driller Promotions events. Pacheco will enter the fight riding a three fight winning streak, with one victory coming in the King Of The Cage promotion. Pacheco is the most experienced fighter that Moret has ever faced, but Moret will get through him and remain undefeated.

Another welterweight division fight is up next as Mike Rhodes (4-1-0) is in action against Benjamin Smith (4-1-0). Rhodes will be looking to rebound from his first professional MMA defeat, which came to Brandon Thatch in the main event of RFA VII. Smith will enter the fight riding a three fight winning streak, with two of those victories coming in the opening round. Rhodes is coming off of a main event appearance in his last fight and he will rebound from that loss to get the win on Friday Night.

We move to the bantamweight division for the next fight as Pedro “The Young Punisher” Munhoz (7-0-0) battles Mitch Jackson (19-3-0). Munhoz is currently undefeated in RFA competition, having defeated Bill Kamery by submission at RFA V. Jackson has won seven of his last eight bouts, with that lone loss coming to Mike Richman at Bellator 88. Jackson is coming off of a tournament fight in Bellator and will recover from that loss to end the undefeated streak of Munhoz.

The RFA Featherweight Title is on the line next as champion Jared “Demon Eyes” Downing (9-1-0) defends the gold against Lance “The Party” Palmer (6-0-0). Downing will be making the first defense of the championship, which he won when he defeated Jordan Rinaldi at RFA V. Palmer is currently undefeated in RFA competition, having defeated Fredson Paixao by decision at RFA IV. This is a pretty big title bout that is not in one of the big promotions, but it will be Downing keeping the gold around his waist.

Headlining this card is a RFA Flyweight Title decision fight as Sergio “The Phenom” Pettis (7-0-0) faces Dillard “Joe” Pegg (5-1-0). Pettis is currently undefeated in RFA competition, having defeated Jimmie Jones by unanimous decision at RFA IV. Pegg will enter the fight riding a four fight winning streak, with three victories coming in the Absolute Action MMA promotion. Pegg is a late replacement for UFC veteran Jeff Curran, which is going to hurt him as Pettis wins the championship.
