The UFC is returning to Fox this weekend with a huge card that features a UFC Flyweight Title bout and a key welterweight division fight. There is also a supersized preliminary card airing on FX, with six total prelim fights airing on the network. Of the six fights on the card, there is a key women’s bantamweight division fight and several big fights in the lightweight division.
Kicking off the action is a women’s bantamweight division fight as Germaine “The Iron Lady†De Randamie (3-2-0) is in action against Julie “Fireball†Kedzie (16-11-0). De Randamie won two of three while competing in Strikeforce, most notably defeating Hiroko Yamanaka at Strikeforce: Rousey vs. Kaufman. Kedzie will enter the fight riding a two fight losing streak, which includes a loss to former Strikeforce Women’s Bantamweight Champion Miesha Tate. This is a must win fight if either lady is looking to make a run in the division and it will be Kedzie picking up the key victory.
Middleweights will step into the cage next as Ed “Short Fuse†Herman (20-9-0-1NC) competes against Trevor “Hot Sauce†Smith (10-3-0). Herman is returning to the UFC after a one fight stint in Strikeforce, where he lost a fight to Ronaldo Souza. Smith will be making his UFC debut in this fight, but he did win two of four fights while in the Strikeforce promotion. These are two fighters who need a victory badly in this one and it will be the UFC veteran in Herman getting the win.
A lightweight division fight is up next as Daron “The Detroit Superstar†Cruickshank (12-3-0) steps into the cage against Yves “Thugjitsu Master†Edwards (42-19-1). Cruickshank has won two of three under the UFC banner, most notably defeating Henry Martinez at UFC On Fox V. Edwards has rotated wins and losses in his last six fights, with his last fight being a loss to Isaac Vallie-Flagg at UFC 156. Cruickshank is entering the fight as a late replacement, but he has the skills to overwhelm Edwards and pull the upset.
More lightweight division action is up next as Mac Danzig (21-10-1) battles Melvin “The Young Assassin†Guillard (30-12-2-1NC). Danzig has rotated wins and losses in his last six UFC fights, with his last fight being a loss to Takanori Gomi at UFC On Fuel TV VI. Guillard has only won one of his last five fights, with that lone victory coming over Fabricio Camoes at UFC 148. This is a must win fight for both competitors, but Danzig’s style is one that Guillard can never seem to beat and that will get Danzig the win.
Up next is a lightweight division fight as Danny “Last Call†Castillo (15-5-0) takes on Tim “The Dirty Bird†Means (18-4-1). Castillo has won four of his last five in UFC competition, most notably defeating Paul Sass at UFC On Fuel TV VII. Means has won two of three bouts under the UFC banner, but is coming off of a loss to Jorge Masvidal at UFC On Fox VII. The winner of this fight should see much bigger fights in the division and it will be Castillo moving up those ranks.
Headlining this portion of the card is a lightweight division fight as Michael “Maverick†Chiesa (9-0-0) faces Jorge “Gamebred†Masvidal (24-7-0). Chiesa is currently undefeated in UFC competition and was the winner of the UFC Ultimate Fighter 15 reality competition. Masvidal is also undefeated in UFC competition, having defeated Tim Means by decision at UFC On Fox VII. This is another key lightweight division fight to keep an eye on, but it will be the more experienced Masvidal getting the victory.
