It seems now that the UFC is putting on more shows in Brazil nowadays then in any other place in the world, the USA included. The company definitely put a top notch card together for those checking out the pay-per-view event on Saturday Night. That extends to the FX portion of the preliminary card, which features top fights in the light heavyweight and women’s bantamweight divisions.
Kicking off the action is a flyweight division fight as Ian “Uncle Creepy†McCall (11-4-1) competes against Iliarde Santos (27-7-1-1NC). McCall is currently winless in his three UFC appearances and has not achieved a victory in almost two years. Santos is also winless in UFC competition, having dropped a fight to Yuri Alcantara by knockout at UFC On FX VIII. This is a must win fight if either competitor is to remain on the UFC roster and it will be McCall getting that much needed win.
Welterweights are going to enter the octagon next as Neil Magny (8-1-0) battles Sergio “Serginho†Moraes (7-2-0). Magny is currently undefeated in UFC competition, having defeated Jon Manley by unanimous decision at UFC 157. Moraes has split both of his UFC appearances, defeating Renne Forte and suffering a defeat to Cezar Ferreira. These are two top prospects in the welterweight division and it will be Magny getting the win to move up the ranks.
Up next is a women’s bantamweight division fight as “The German Tank†Sheila Gaff (10-5-1) faces Amanda “Lioness†Nunes (7-3-0). Gaff is currently winless in UFC competition, dropping a fight to Sara McMann via first round TKO at UFC 159. Nunes will be making her UFC debut in this fight, but is coming off of runs in both Strikeforce and Invicta FC. This could be one of the best striking battles in the division for the rest of the year, but it will be Gaff ruining the UFC debut of Nunes.
Headlining this portion of the card is a light heavyweight division fight as Vinny “Pezao†Magalhaes (10-6-0-1NC) takes on Anthony “The Hippo†Perosh (13-7-0). Magalhaes has split both of his fights in his second UFC run, defeating Igor Pokrajac and suffering a defeat to Phil Davis. Perosh is coming off of the worst loss of his career, which was a seven second knockout loss to Ryan Jimmo at UFC 149. This is a must win fight for both competitors in this bout, but it will be Magalhaes defeating the longtime veteran.
