The World Series Of Fighting returns to action this Saturday Night with a loaded card, featuring top ranked kickboxer Tyrone Spong headlining. The preliminary card is particularly loaded as well, which has become a staple of most WSOF events thus far. The prelims for this event features a pair of great fights that are taking place in both the welterweight and lightweight divisions.
Kicking off the action is a featherweight division fight as Isaac “High Risk†Gutierrez (5-3-0) competes against Victor “Joe Boxer†Valenzuela (12-6-2). Gutierrez has only won one of his last three bouts, with that lone victory coming over Carlos Garces at a Fight Club OC event. Valenzuela has won three of his last four fights and holds a victory over longtime MMA veteran Charles Bennett. This is an excellent way to kick off the event, but it will be the veteran in Valenzuela picking up the victory.
A bantamweight division fight is up next as Jared “The Jackhammer†Papazian (15-10-0-1NC) is in action against John Robles (7-1-0). Papazian has only won one of two since his UFC release, which came after a loss to Tim Elliot at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale. Robles will enter the fight riding a two fight winning streak and he is a veteran of the Gladiator Challenge promotion. Robles looks like a fighter on the verge of a breakout and he will get the biggest win of his career as he defeats the UFC veteran.
Light heavyweights are in action next as Lew “The Titan†Polley (12-4-0) does battle against Hans Stringer (21-5-2). Polley will enter the fight riding a two fight winning streak and he holds a victory over UFC veteran Vernon White. Stringer will enter the fight riding a four fight winning streak and he has not suffered a defeat in almost three years. The winner of this fight could move up to bigger fights in one of the big three promotions, but it will be Stringer getting that win.
Up next is a lightweight division fight as “Lethal†Lewis Gonzales (8-0-0) takes on Antonio “Mandingo†McKee (28-5-2). Gonzales is currently undefeated as a professional MMA fighter and has only seen one career fight go to a decision. McKee has won three of four fights since his UFC release, which came after a loss to Jacob Volkmann at UFC 125. McKee has a very strong wrestling style that has brought him tons of victories and that style will end his foe’s undefeated streak.
Headlining this portion of the card is a welterweight division fight as Gerald “Hurricane†Harris (21-5-0) faces Jorge “The Sandman†Santiago (25-11-0). Harris is currently winless in WSOF competition, having dropped a fight to Josh Burkman at the WSOF I. Santiago is competing for the first time since his third UFC release, which came after a loss to Gunnar Nelson at UFC ON Fuel TV VII. This is a must win fight if either competitor is to remain relevant in MMA right now and it will be Harris getting that much needed win.
