WORLD SERIES OF FIGHTING IV MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 8/9/2013 2:58 PM

The World Series Of Fighting is quickly picking up steam as a promotion worth keeping an eye for us MMA fans out there. This particular event is being headlined by one of the greatest kick boxers of our generation in Tyrone Spong. Also, the WSOF President Ray Sefo faces David Huckaba and the rising prospect in Marlon Moraes returns to the cage.

Kicking off the action is a lightweight division fight as Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante (17-7-1-2NC) is in action against Tyson Griffin (16-6-0). Cavalcante has split both of his fights in the WSOF, defeating TJ O’Brien and suffering a defeat to Justin Gaethje. Griffin has been undefeated since his UFC release, which came after a loss to Bart Palaszewski at UFC 137. The winner of this fight is schedule to take part in the upcoming lightweight title tournament and it will be Griffin getting that shot.

Another lightweight division fight is up next as “The Black Assassin” Keon Caldwell (9-1-0) competes against “Notorious” Nick Newell (9-0-0). Caldwell will be making his WSOF debut in this fight, but he was a cast member on the UFC Ultimate Fighter 13. Newell will also be making his WSOF debut in this fight, but he is the former XFC Lightweight Champion. A lightweight tournament spot is also going to the winner of this fight, which will be the undefeated Newell.

Heavyweights will enter the cage next as Dave “Bad Man” Huckaba (20-5-0) battles “Sugar” Ray Sefo (2-1-0). Huckaba will enter the fight riding a three fight winning streak, which includes a victory over Strikeforce veteran Carl Seumanutafa. Sefo is returning to action after a two-plus year layoff and is actually the president of the World Series Of Fighting. This bout is more about the spectacle than the actual fight, but it will be Huckaba taking the president down.

Up next is a bantamweight division fight as Brandon “Hot Rod” Hempleman (9-1-0) faces Marlon Moraes (10-4-1). Hempleman will be making his WSOF debut in this fight, but he does so on the strength of a six fight winning streak. Moraes is currently undefeated in WSOF competition, having defeated both Miguel Torres and Tyson Nam. Moraes is easily the best bantamweight in the WSOF right now and he will show why with his third WSOF victory on Saturday Night.

Headlining this card is a light heavyweight division fight as Tyrone “King Of The Ring” Spong (1-0-0) takes on Angel “The Dream” DeAnda (11-2-0). Spong is looking to build on the success of his first professional MMA win, which came over Travis Bartlett at WSOF I. DeAnda will be making his WSOF debut in this fight, but he is the current Tachi Palace Fight Light Heavyweight Champion. Spong is one of the greatest kick boxers alive today and he will show MMA fans why as he decimates DeAnda in this one.
