RESURRECTION FIGHTING ALLIANCE IX PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 8/12/2013 11:14 AM

Although the majority of the MMA universe is going to be focused on the UFC debut on Fox Sports I this weekend, the Resurrection Fighting Alliance is hoping to get some attention as well. The promotion will be crowning a new bantamweight champion when UFC veteran Jeff Curran battles Pedro Munhoz. The preliminary card is loaded as well, with a trio of undefeated fighters looking to remain undefeated.

Kicking off the action is a featherweight division fight as Nick Jordan (2-1-0) competes against Perceu Friza (1-0-0). Jordan will enter the fight riding a two fight winning streak and is coming off of a two fight stint in BAMMA USA. Friza is currently undefeated as a professional MMA fighter, but this will be his first fight in well over two years. The long layoff is going to hurt Friza in this fight as Jordan wins his third straight fight and ends an undefeated streak.

Lightweights will be stepping into the cage next as James Moontasri (4-1-0) is in action against RJ Clifford (4-2-0). Moontasri will be looking to rebound from his first professional MMA defeat, which came against Darren Smith at a Fight Club OC event. Clifford has only competed once in the last three years, defeating Jay Bogan at an Extreme Fighting World Championships event. This is an important fight in this stage of both fighters careers, but it will be Moontasri getting the victory.

Up next is a welterweight division fight is up next as Ricky “The IE Bad Boy” Legere Jr. (17-4-0) faces Stephen Martinez (9-2-0). Legere Jr. will enter the fight riding a seven fight winning streak, which includes a victory over Chris Spang at Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Jardine. Martinez will enter the fight riding a five fight winning streak, which includes a pair of victories in the King Of The Cage promotion. Why this fight is not on the main card is beyond me, but it will be Legere Jr. winning his tenth straight fight either way.

Headlining this portion of the card is a women’s bantamweight division fight as Justine Kish (1-0-0) battles Christine Stanley (1-0-0). Kish is returning to competition after being away for over two years, with her lone fight being a victory over Munah Holland at Ring Of Combat 33. Stanley is also returning to competition after being away for over a year, but she defeated Leah Barfield in her lone MMA fight in under thirty seconds. This is a must win fight after both competitors have been away for so long, but it will be Kish getting that victory.
