While this weekend belongs to the UFC, as it debuts on Fox Sports 1, but that does not mean that the Resurrection Fighting Alliance should go unnoticed. The promotion is putting together a six fight card on AXS TV, with UFC veteran Jeff Curran fighting Pedro Munhoz for the vacant bantamweight title. Also, a TUF alumni in Kevin Casey is in the co-main event and another UFC veteran is looking for a victory.
Kicking off the action is a flyweight division fight as Matt Manzanares (4-1-0) competes against “Little†Steve Swanson (10-1-0). Manzanares has split both of his RFA fights, defeating Kevin Gray and having suffered a defeat to Aaron Ely. Swanson will be looking to rebound from his first professional MMA defeat, which came to Kana Hyatt at a MEZ Sports event. Prior to the loss, Swanson was on a hell of a roll and the roll will resume as he gets back on track with a victory.
Welterweights are stepping into the cage next as Chris “The Kiss†Spang (5-2-0) is in action against Alan Jouban (6-1-0). Spang will be competing for the first time since his UFC release, which came after a loss to Adlan Amagov at UFC On Fuel TV IX. Jouban will enter the fight riding a five fight winning streak, with two victories coming in the Shark Fights promotion. The winner of this fight could see themselves in the UFC and it will be Jouban getting that pivotal victory.
A pair of heavyweights are competing next as Steve Mocco (2-0-0) looks for a victory against Lew “The Titan†Polley (12-4-0). Mocco is currently undefeated in RFA competition, having defeated Tyler Perry by way of submission at RFA IV. Polley will be looking to build on the biggest victory of his career, as he defeated UFC veteran Carmelo Marrera at Bellator 77. Polley may be a last second replacement in this fight, but he will build on the momentum of his last win to end the undefeated streak of Mocco.
We move to the featherweight division for the next fight as Jordan “All Day†Rinaldi (6-1-0) battles Brian “T-City†Ortega (6-0-0). Rinaldi will be looking to rebound from his first professional MMA defeat, which came against Jared Downing at RFA V. Ortega is currently undefeated as a professional MMA fighter, which includes a four fight stint in the Rage In The Cage promotion. These are two of the better unsigned featherweights in all of MMA right now, but it will be Rinaldi picking up the win.
Up next is a middleweight division fight as “King†Kevin Casey (5-3-0) takes on Casey “Spider Monkey†Ryan (5-0-0). Casey will be competing for the first time since his UFC release, which came after a loss to Josh Samman at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale. Ryan is currently undefeated as a professional MMA fighter, which includes a victory over Paul Song at Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley. Ryan is undefeated thus far in his career for a reason and he will show why as he defeats the UFC veteran.
Headlining this card is a RFA Bantamweight Title decision fight as Pedro “The Young Punisher†Munhoz (8-0-0) faces Jeff “Big Frog†Curran (34-15-1). Munhoz is currently undefeated in RFA competition, having defeated both Bill Kamery and Mitch Jackson. Curran has been undefeated since his UFC release, having defeated Joshua Killion at Extreme Challenge 227. Curran has been looking for a way back into the UFC and Munhoz will block the road as he gets the belt by defeating Curran.
