We are only a few days away from what could be considered one of the biggest cards the UFC has ever put together on free TV. Despite the six fight main card also airing live on Fox Sports 1, there will also be a four fight preliminary card airing on the same channel. This portion of the preliminary card is particularly stacked, with key fights in the featherweight and bantamweight divisions.
Kicking off the action is a featherweight division fight as Diego “DB†Brandao (17-8-0) competes against Daniel “The Pit†Pineda (18-9-0). Brandao has won three of four under the UFC banner and is the winner of the UFC Ultimate Fighter 14 reality show. Pineda has only won one of his last three under the UFC banner, with that lone win coming over Justin Lawrence at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale. Brandao is a level of class ahead of Pineda right now and that will show when he defeats him to win his third straight.
More featherweight action is up next as Mike Brown (26-8-0) is in action against “Super†Steven Siler (22-10-0). Brown is returning to action after a self-imposed retirement, he last competed at UFC 146 in May 2012. Siler has won four of five fights under the UFC banner, with a notable victory coming over Cole Miller at UFC On FX II. Brown went on a self-imposed retirement for a reason and Siler will make him wish he did not come back as he gets the victory.
Up next is a featherweight division bout as “Blessed†Max Holloway (7-2-0) takes on “Notorious†Conor McGregor (13-2-0). Holloway has won three of his last four in UFC competition, but is coming off of a loss to Dennis Bermudez at UFC 160. McGregor is currently undefeated in UFC competition, having defeated Marcus Brimage by TKO at UFC On Fuel TV IX. This should be the most action packed encounter of the preliminary card, but it will be McGregor getting the win either way.
Headlining this portion of the game is a bantamweight division fight as Michael “Mayday†McDonald (15-2-0) faces Brad “One Punch†Pickett (23-7-0). McDonald will be competing for the first time since losing a UFC Interim Bantamweight Title fight to Renan Barao at UFC On Fuel TV VII. Pickett has won three of his last four under the UFC banner, last defeating Mike Easton at UFC On Fuel TV IX. The winner of this fight could be close to a potential title shot and it will be McDonald getting closer to the shot.
