LEGACY FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS 22 PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 8/21/2013 11:01 PM

The Texas based Legacy Fighting Championships returns to action on Friday Night with a battle between UFC veterans in the main event. While the promotion has a stacked main card, which airs live on AXS TV, the preliminary card is loaded with eight total fights. Of the eight fights on the un-aired preliminary card, there will be two undefeated fighters and five fighters making their professional MMA debut.

Kicking off the action is a heavyweight division fight as George Trujillo (1-2-0) competes against Eric Lunsford (0-0-0). Trujillo will enter the fight riding a two fight losing streak and none of his MMA fights have gone past the second round. Lunsford will be making his professional MMA debut in this fight, but did win two of three as an amateur. Lunsford is making his professional debut at the right time as he will get the win and hand Trujillo his third straight defeat.

Lightweights will step into the cage next as Javier Minjarez (1-1-0) stands across the cage from Santana Martinez (0-0-0). Minjarez will be looking to rebound from his first professional MMA defeat, which came against Chris Feist at a C3 Fights event. Martinez will be making his professional MMA debut in this fight, having won two of four as an amateur fighter. Minjarez won the battle between the two as amateurs and will do so again in the rematch as professionals.

A pair of featherweights will be competing next as Larry Garcia (1-5-0) does battle against Joe Saucedo (0-1-0). Garcia will enter the fight riding a five fight losing streak and he has not achieved a victory in over four years. Saucedo is currently winless as a professional MMA fighter, having dropped a fight to Brandon Ruiz at a 24/7 Entertainment event. How this fight became part of the card is beyond my comprehension, but it will be Saucedo getting his first pro MMA victory.

We move to the flyweight division for the next bout as Jeremy Valdez (1-3-0) is in action against Jason Gallegos (0-0-0). Valdez is coming off of a two fight run in the 24/7 Entertainment promotion, where he won one of those two fights. Gallegos will be making his professional MMA debut in this fight, but did compete many times as an amateur. This is another fight that makes you wonder what the match makers were thinking, but it will be Gallegos making a successful pro debut.

More heavyweight action is up next as Bruno Bastos (1-4-0) looks for the win against Gabriel Garcia (3-3-1). Bastos has only competed twice in the last seven years, but has previously competed against UFC veteran Rousimar Palhares. Garcia will be returning to action after a three year absence, last competing at a Maxx FC event in June 2010. These are two rather inactive competitors, but it will be Bastos getting the win since he has more big fight experience.

The middleweight division will be featured next as Daniel Perez (0-1-0) will battle Thomas Moreno (0-0-0). Perez made his professional MMA debut at a 24/7 Entertainment event this past October, dropping a fight to Armando Herrera Jr.. Moreno will be making his professional MMA debut in this fight, but does have some experience competing as an amateur. These are two fighters in the early stages of their professional MMA careers, but it will be Moreno making a successful pro debut.

Up next is a welterweight division affair as Dustin Roe (0-0-0) will be duking it out with Jesse Moreno (1-0-0). Roe will be making his professional MMA debut in this fight and he does so while being undefeated as an amateur. Moreno is currently undefeated as a professional MMA fighter, having defeated Marcus Simien at a 24/7 Entertainment event. These are two competitors who have looked good in the early stages of their career, but it will be Moreno staying undefeated in the end.

Headlining this portion of the card is a bantamweight division fight as Jon Voth (2-1-0) faces Gino Davila (2-2-0). Voth has rotated wins and losses thus far in his MMA career, with his last fight being a win over Jeremy Valderaz at a 24/7 Entertainment event. Davila has also rotated wins and losses throughout his MMA career, with his last fight being a victory over Nathan Torres at a 24/7 Entertainment event. This is a must win fight for both competitors and it will be Voth getting that victory to give him his first winning streak.
