The Ultimate Fighting Championships may be prepping for its sophomore effort on Fox Sports 1 this Wednesday Night, but they will also be debuting on the newly christened Fox Sports 2 this Wednesday as well. However, unlike the six fight main card that is airing on Fox Sports 1, there is only a four fight preliminary card airing on Fox Sports 2. The four fight preliminary card is definitely worth paying attention to, with key fights in the welterweight and featherweight divisions.
Kicking off the action is a welterweight division fight as James Head (9-3-0) competes against “The Kansas City bandit†Jason High (16-4-0). Head has won two of his last three under the UFC banner, most notably defeating Brian Ebersole at UFC 149. High is currently winless in his second UFC run, having dropped a fight to Erick Silva at UFC On Fuel TV X. High has always been impressive outside the UFC, but he will turn things around to be impressive inside the UFC as he gets his first promotional win.
Featherweight action will be taking place next as Darren Elkins (16-3-0) does battle against Hatsu Hioki (26-2-2). Elkins has won five of his last six in UFC competition, with his last fight being a loss to Chad Mendes at UFC On Fox VII. Hioki will enter the fight riding a two fight losing streak, with those losses coming to Ricardo Lamas and Clay Guida. This is a must win fight if either fighter is to remain relevant in the division and it will be Elkins getting that victory.
Up next is a welterweight division fight as Justin “Fast Eddy†Edwards (8-2-0) battles Brandon “Rukus†Thatch (9-1-0). Edwards has rotated wins and losses throughout his UFC run, with his last fight being a win over Josh Neer at UFC On FX V. Thatch will be making his UFC debut in this fight, but only one of his ten career fights have gone past the opening round. These are two fighters who are looking to make an impact within the division and it will be Thatch making a successful UFC debut.
Headlining this portion of the card is a welterweight division fight as Papy “Makambo†Abedi (9-2-0) faces Dylan “The Villain†Andrews (16-4-0-1NC). Abedi has only won one of three under the UFC banner, with that lone win coming over Besam Yousef at UFC On Fuel TV IX. Andrews is currently undefeated in UFC competition, having defeated Jimmy Quinlan at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale. This is a must win fight for Abedi if he is to avoid the pink slip, which he will unfortunately be getting as Andrews gets his second UFC win.
