The UFC is running three events in just a single week and UFC 164 is easily the biggest with the UFC Lightweight Title being defended in the main event. The card is loaded from the five fights airing on pay-per-view all the way to the three fights streaming on Facebook. Speaking of those three fights on Facebook, one features the son of a UFC legend and another features the return of a heavyweight fighter.
Kicking of the action is a middleweight division fight as Magnus “Jycken†Cedenblad (10-4-0) battles Jared “The Messenger†Hamman (13-5-0). Cedenblad is currently winless in UFC competition, having dropped a fight to Francis Carmont at UFC On Fuel TV II. Hamman has only won one of his last four under the UFC banner, with that lone win coming over CB Dollaway at UFC On Versus V. This is a must win fight if either fighter is to stay with the UFC and it will be Hamman keeping his job in the end.
Up next is a lightweight division fight as Ryan Couture (6-2-0) stands across the octagon from Al Iaquinta (5-2-1). Couture is currently winless in UFC competition and is the son of UFC Hall Of Fame member Randy Couture. Iaquinta is currently winless in UFC competition as well, having dropped a fight to Michael Chiesa at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 15 Finale. This is another must win fight if either fight is looking to stay in the UFC and it will be Couture getting his first UFC win.
Headlining this portion of the card is a heavyweight division fight as Nikita “The Al Capone†Krylov (15-2-0) faces Soa “The Hulk†Palelei (18-3-0). Krylov will be making his UFC debut in this fight, but he did have a successful the fight run in the Gladiator Fighting Championships promotion. Palelei is returning to the UFC after being away for six years, but he has defeated such luminaries as Sean McCorkle and Bob Sapp in between appearances. This should be an exciting striking battle to close out the Facebook portion of the card and it will be Palelei making a successful UFC return.
