UFC 164 FOX SPORTS 1 PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 8/30/2013 7:59 PM

It seems that there is a UFC event on our television screens every time a channel is changed, but UFC 164 will be the second of three UFC events in a week. There are four fights airing on Fox Sports 1 that are part of the preliminary card for the UFC 164 pay-per-view. These fights features key battles in both the lightweight division and the flyweight division respectively.

Kicking off the action is a bantamweight division fight as Chico “King” Camus (12-4-0) competes against Kyung Ho “Typhoon” Kang (11-6-0-1NC). Camus has split both of his UFC fights, having defeated Dustin Pague and suffering a defeat to Dustin Kimura. Kang made an auspicious UFC debut at UFC On Fuel TV VIII, getting a no contest against Alex Caceres after the latter failed a post-fight drug test. These are two fighters who are in a desperate need of a victory and it will be Camus getting that much needed victory.

Welterweights will step into the cage next as Pascal “Panzer” Krauss (11-1-0) takes on Hyun Gyu “The Ace” Lim (11-3-1). Krauss has won two of three fights under the UFC banner, last defeating Mike Stumpf by decision at UFC On Fox VI. Lim is currently undefeated in UFC competition, having defeated Marcelo Guimaraes at UFC On Fuel TV VIII. A lot of folks in the MMA world consider Krauss to be an unheralded prospect and he will show why as he defeats Lim.

Up next is a flyweight division fight as Tim Elliot (9-3-1) is in action against Louis “Goodnight” Gaudinot (6-2-0). Elliot has split both of his UFC fights, having defeated Jared Papazian and suffered a defeat to John Dodson. Gaudinot is currently undefeated as a flyweight in UFC competition, having defeated John Lineker at UFC On Fox III. These are two of the more talented flyweights in the entire division, but it will be Gaudinot scoring the victory either way.

Headlining this portion of the card is a lightweight division fight as Gleison Tibau (27-9-0) faces Jamie “C-4” Varner (21-7-1-2NC). Tibau has rotated wins and losses in his last fight UFC fights, with his last fight being a win over John Cholish at UFC On FX VIII. Varner has won two of three fights in his most recent UFC run, most notably defeating Edson Barboza at UFC 146. The winner of this fight should move up to bigger fights within the division and it will be Varner getting that win.
