XTREME FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS 25 PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 9/5/2013 11:50 AM

The Xtreme Fighting Championships will be returning to action this Friday Night on AXS TV with one of the biggest cards the promotion has ever had. The event will be headlined by a bout between Stephanie Eggink and Angela Magana, which will crown the promotions first ever women’s strawweight champion. There will be a four fight preliminary card as well, which will be featuring a UFC veteran in the feature fight.

Kicking off the action is a lightweight division contest as Martin Manrique (0-0-0) competes against Francisco Marin (0-0-0). Manrique will be making his professional MMA debut in this fight, but he has previously competed as an amateur. Marin will also be making his professional MMA debut in this fight and he does have some experience as an amateur. It is always a crapshoot when picking two fighters who are making their pro debuts, but I’ll go with Marin on this one.

Bantamweights will be stepping into the cage next as Tim Sosa (0-0-0) is in action against Jordan Espinosa (2-1-0). Sosa will be making his professional MMA debut in this fight, but he did win ten of thirteen as an amateur. Espinosa will be looking to rebound from his first professional MMA defeat, which came against Andrew Cash at a Rocktagon MMA event. Espinosa is going to want to get back on track after suffering that defeat and he will do so by spoiling the pro debut of Sosa.

Up next is a bantamweight division fight as Edward “Tombstone” Tomaselli (2-6-0) battles Joshua “The Destroya” Montoya (10-8-0). Tomaselli is returning to action after a five year break from competition and while on a six fight losing streak. Montoya has won two of his last three fights and last competed at Bellator 91, losing to Ed West via knockout. Barring a major upset from taking place, it will be Montoya easily defeating Tomaselli in this preliminary bout.

Headlining this portion of the card is a welterweight division fight as Rocky France (3-6-0) faces Ryan “The Tank Engine” Thomas (16-7-0). France lost the initial meeting between himself and Thomas, which happened at a Coliseum Combat event this past June. Thomas is a veteran of UFC competition and recently defeated UFC veteran Corey Hill at Xtreme Fighting Championships 21. Not much has changed for either fighter since the first bout and it will be Thomas winning for the second time in a row.
