The Bellator Fighting Championships kicked off season number nine last Saturday Night with a great card from beginning to end. As we draw closer to the historical 100th card, Bellator 99 looks to be a card that all MMA fans will want to check out. There is a six fight preliminary card that will be streaming on Spike.com, with a UFC and Strikeforce veteran in action.
Kicking off the action is a light heavyweight division fight as Nick “Mercenary†Moghaddam (6-6-1) competes against Virgil “Rezdog†Zwicker (10-3-0). Moghaddam will enter the fight riding a two fight losing streak and the fighter has not achieved a win in over a year. Zwicker is coming off of a three fight run in the Strikeforce promotion, where he only won one fight in the promotion. These are a pair of fighters who are need of a win in a bad way and it will be Zwicker picking up that win.
A pair of heavyweights will be competing next as Blagoi Ivanov (7-0-0-1NC) is in action against Manny “Bam Bam†Lara (4-3-0). Ivanov will be returning to action after a two year layoff from competition, but he does hold a win over former UFC Heavyweight Champion Ricco Rodriguez. Lara is currently winless in Bellator competition, with those losses coming to Ryan Martinez and Josh Appelt. Ivanov was on quite the roll before his break from competition, but he will get back on track by securing the victory.
Featherweights will step into the cage next as Musa Toliver (9-8-1) does battle against Goiti Yamauchi (14-1-0). Toliver has won two of his last three fights and has previously competed against UFC veteran Ian McCall. Yamauchi will enter the fight riding a nine fight winning streak and he is coming off of a two fight run in the Smash MMA promotion. Yamauchi is a fighter who Bellator has some high hopes for and he will show why as he defeats Toliver in this one.
We move to the middleweight division for the next bout as Andy Murad (6-0-0) takes on Gavin Sterritt (4-1-0). Murad is currently undefeated as a professional MMA fighter and he has previously competed in the King Of The Cage promotion. Sterritt will enter the fight riding a four fight winning streak and he has yet to have a fight go to the judge’s scorecard. This is the fight to check out on the preliminary card, but it will be Murad keeping his undefeated streak alive in the end.
Up next is a bantamweight division fight as Derek Loffer (4-1-0) battles “Handsome†Mario Navarro (4-3-0). Loffer will enter the fight riding a two fight winning streak and he has yet to have a fight go past the opening round. Navarro has only won one of his last four fights, with that lone win coming over Anthony Bain at Bellator 82. Loffer has been extremely dominant thus far in his short MMA career and he will get past Navarro to add to his dominance.
Headlining this portion of the card is a light heavyweight division fight as Savo Kosic (4-1-0) faces Hector “Sick Dog†Ramirez (9-5-1). Kosic will enter the fight riding a two fight winning streak, but this will be his first bout in almost a full year. Ramirez has won three of five fights since his UFC release, which came after a loss to Forrest Griffin at UFC 72. These are two fighters who have been fairly inactive in recent years, but it will be Kosic defeating the UFC veteran.
