LEGACY FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS 23 PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 9/12/2013 2:07 PM

There are five major MMA events this weekend, so it is nice to know that the Legacy Fighting Championships can become the third event to air on Friday alone. The promotion has put a great card together, with features three UFC veteran and a Bellator veteran as well. The preliminary card is also quite a site to see, with ten fighters looking to make a positive step in their careers.

Kicking off the action is a middleweight division fight as Cameron Martin (1-1-0) competes against Allen Nelson (0-0-0). Martin will be looking to rebound from his first professional MMA defeat, which came against Marco Hernandez at Legacy FC 17. Nelson will be making his professional MMA debut in this fight and he did go winless as an amateur fighter. Nelson did not look very good as an amateur and will stumble in his professional debut as Martin picks up the win.

A pair of welterweights will be battling next as Matt Mazurek (1-0-0) is in action against Julian Shore (1-2-0). Mazurek made his professional MMA debut in November 2012, having defeated Jamall Emmers at an ABG Promotions event. Shore has rotated wins and losses throughout his brief MMA career, with his last fight being a loss to Leville Simpson. Shore has been inconsistent thus far in his MMA career, a fact that Mazurek will take advantage of to remain undefeated.

More welterweight action is up next as Chris Lopez (2-0-0) will be across the cage from Mike Salazar (2-5-0). Lopez is currently undefeated in Legacy FC competition, with wins coming over Melvin Jordan and Kenny Burke. Salazar will enter the fight riding a three fight losing streak, with one of those losses coming to UFC veteran James Vick. Salazar has not been having much success as a fighter thus far and his woes will continue as Lopez wins his third straight fight.

Up next is a bantamweight division encounter as Jonathan Ramirez (0-0-0) takes on Carlos Vergara (1-0-0). Ramirez will be making his professional MMA debut in this fight, but only won one of two fights as an amateur. Vergara is currently undefeated as a professional MMA fighter, having defeated LeRoy Martinez at an ABG Promotions event. Ramirez may be making his pro debut a little early after a rocky start as an amateur, which will be while Vergara picks up his second win as a pro.

Headlining this portion of the card is a featherweight division fight as Billy Buch (3-2-0) faces Raymond Moreno (2-2-0). Buch will enter the fight riding a two fight winning streak and has yet to have a fight go to the judge’s scorecard. Moreno is returning to action after a one year break from competition, with his last fight being a loss to Matt Hunt at an Ultimate Warriors Fighting event. These are a pair of fighters known for finishing their fights, but it will be Buch notching the win in this one.
