With a total of five events taking place this weekend, Cage Warriors officials must be happy to know that there event is running unopposed on Saturday Afternoon. A portion of the preliminary card, which is airing live on Facebook, will be an important one in the company’s history. That is due to the fact that the one night bantamweight title tournament will be kicking off on the preliminary card.
Kicking off the action is a featherweight division fight as Sam Gilbert (8-3-0) takes on Jamie Rogers (9-6-0). Gilbert is currently winless in Cage Warriors competition, having suffered a defeat to Brett Johns at Cage Warriors 49. Rogers has fought twice under the Cage Warriors banner, defeating Brad Wheeler and suffering a defeat to Cathal Pendred. This is a big fight if either competitor is going to get bigger fights in the promotion and it will be Rogers getting that opportunity.
Up next is a Cage Warriors Bantamweight Title Tournament Semi-Final Round Fight as David Haggstrom (7-1-1) battles Brett “The Pikey†Johns (6-0-0). Haggstrom will be making his Cage Warriors debut in this fight, but he is coming off of a successful two fight run in the Vision FC promotion. Johns is currently undefeated as a professional MMA fighter and has already won twice in Cage Warriors. This is an excellent way to kick off the one night tournament, but it will be Johns advancing to the finals.
Headlining this portion of the card is a Cage Warriors Bantamweight Title Tournament Semi-Final Round Fight as “Evil†Kris Edwards (8-5-0) faces James “Power Weasel†Pennington (8-1-0). Edwards is a late replacement in this fight and has only won two of four in Cage Warriors competition. Pennington is currently undefeated in Cage Warriors competition, having defeated James Doolan at Cage Warriors 53. Being a late replacement is going to hurt Edwards in this one as it will be Pennington punching his ticket to the finals.
