BELLATOR 101 PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 9/25/2013 8:45 PM

After the historic 100th show for the Bellator Fighting Championships, the promotion will be returning to action with show number 101. The promotion is featuring the return of former Bellator Featherweight Champion Joe Warren, as he fights Nick Kirk in the main event. The preliminary card is stacked as well, with a big lightweight division fight and a WWE Tough Enough alumni in action.

Kicking off the action is a bantamweight division fight as Brent Alvarez (1-1-0) competes against Austin Springer (3-0-0). Alvarez will be looking to rebound from his first professional MMA defeat, which came to Dylan Atkinson at a Prime Fighting event. Springer is currently undefeated as a professional MMA fighter, with two of three wins coming in the opening round. Springer has looked really good thus far in the early part of his career and he will win his fourth straight to remain undefeated.

Lightweights will be entering the cage next as Brent Primus (2-0-0) is in action against Scott “Tickle Fight” Thometz (6-2-0). Primus is currently undefeated as a professional MMA fighter, with none of his fights going past the opening round. Thometz has only won one of his last three, with one of those losses coming to Strikeforce veteran Sterling Ford. Thometz may be on a bad streak at the moment, but his experience will help him rebound and defeat Primus to end his undefeated streak.

We move to the welterweight division for the next fight as Peter Aspenwal (2-4-0) does battle with Jeremiah “Mississippi” Riggs (7-7-0). Aspenwal will enter the fight riding a two fight losing streak and he has not won a fight in well over three years. Riggs is a WWE Tough Enough alumni who is currently winless in Bellator competition, dropping fights to Trey Houston and Kelvin Tiller. It looks like name value is what got this fight on the card, because nothing else gives it much reason to be here, Riggs will get the win here.

More welterweight division action is up next as Nathan “Soulforce” Coy (12-4-0) battles Andy Uhrich (8-3-0). Coy will enter the fight riding a four fight winning streak and the fighter is a veteran of Strikeforce competition. Uhrich is currently undefeated in Bellator competition, having defeated Joe Williams via decision at Bellator 73. This is a fight that is worth checking out on the preliminary card, but it will be Coy getting the win either way.

Up next is a middleweight division fight as Tyson “The Anti-Hero” Jeffries (10-7-0) faces Joe “The Juggernaut” Pacheco (6-0-0). Jeffries has won three of his last four fights, with one of those victories coming over Strikeforce veteran Keith Berry. Pacheco is currently undefeated in his MMA career, with victories over Kyle Bolt and Pierry Pierre in Bellator competition. Jeffries definitely has the experience edge over his foe, but that will not be enough as Pacheco stays undefeated when this one is over.

Headlining this portion of the card is a lightweight division fight as Ryan “Diamond” Healy (23-12-1) takes on Marcin Held (15-3-0). Healy has only won one of his last three bouts, but those three fights were against UFC veterans John Alessio, Paul Kelly and Jesse Ronson. Held made it to the finals of the season seven lightweight tournament before losing to Dave Jansen via decision. This fight is easily worthy of the main card, but it will be Held returning to prominence within Bellator.
