BELLATOR 102 PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 9/30/2013 11:05 PM

As the Bellator Fighting Championships nears its debut on pay-per-view, the promotion is putting on another top notch card this Friday Night. The card will be headlined by a pair of heavyweight tournament bouts that features three UFC veterans. The preliminary card is quite a stacked one as well, with a former heavyweight tournament competitor in action.

Kicking off the action is a heavyweight division fight as Brandon “Money” Cash (7-3-0) competes against William Richey (10-1-0). Cash will enter the fight riding a two fight winning streak and has previously fought against UFC veteran Shane Del Rosario. Richey is coming off of a successful five fight run in the Xplode Fight Series, plus he has defeated UFC Hall Of Fame member Dan Severn. Richey has been looking unbeatable in the last three years and that will continue as he defeats Cash in this one.

A lightweight division fight is up next as Scott Cleve (13-3-0) is in action against Isaac DeJesus (10-5-1-1NC). Cleve will enter the fight riding a five fight winning streak and he holds a victory over UFC veteran Abel Trujillo. DeJesus has only won one of his last six fights, with that lone victory coming over Darren Crisp at Tachi Palace Fights 16. DeJesus was touted as a big MMA prospect at one point, but those days are behind him and Cleve will show why as he gets the win.

More heavyweight action is up next as Javy “Eye Candy” Ayala (5-3-0) does battle with Thiago “Big Monster” Santos (11-2-0-1NC). Ayala has only won one of his last four fights, which includes a loss to Strikeforce veteran Carl Seumanutafa. Santos made it to the finals of the season five heavyweight tournament, before the infamous groin shot from Eric Prindle ended the tournament in controversy. Santos has not been the same since the infamous groin shots from the aforementioned Prindle, but he will recover to get back on track this Friday.

Another lightweight division bout is happening as Brandon Girtz (8-3-0) takes on “The Tachi Kid” Poppies Martinez (27-8-0-1NC). Girtz has split both of his previous Bellator bouts, defeating Michel Quinones and suffering a defeat to Derek Campos. Martinez will enter the fight riding an eight fighting winning streak and only one of those fights have gone to a decision. Martinez is one of the better fighters not to get a shot in the UFC and he will show why as he gets the victory over Girtz.

Up next is a lightweight division encounter as Jonny “The King Of Late Night” Carson (11-6-0) battles Bryan Travers (14-3-0). Carson has won two of his last three fights and he is a longtime veteran of the Xtreme Fighting League. Travers is returning to action after a two year layoff, he last competed in a losing effort to UFC veteran Carlo Prater at Strikeforce Challengers 14. Travers was one of the better prospects until his long break from competition, but he will return to action and get a victory.

Headlining this portion of the card is a lightweight division fight as Cain Carrizosa (4-0-0) faces Juan Quesada (2-1-0). Carrizosa is currently undefeated as a professional MMA fighter and he is a veteran of The Warriors Cage promotion. Quesada will enter the fight riding a two fight winning streak and he has been a pro fighter for less than a year. Carrizosa is undefeated right now for a good reason and he will remain undefeated in the biggest fight of his career.
