MAXIMUM FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS 38 MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 10/2/2013 3:57 PM

Canada’s Maximum Fighting Championships returns to action on Friday Night with a loaded card, maybe the biggest in the promotions history. The event will be headlined by a trio of title fights in the heavyweight, middleweight and bantamweight divisions. Besides the title bouts, there will be three other fights also on the card, including an undefeated fighter who wants to keep his perfect record intact.

Kicking off the action is a middleweight division fight as Teddy Ash (3-0-0) competes against Jared “The Yeti” McComb (5-2-1). Ash is currently undefeated as a professional MMA fighter and has yet to have a fight go past the second round. McComb is coming off the biggest victory of his career, as he defeated WEC veteran Marcus Hicks at MFC 37. These are two fighters riding a good amount of momentum heading into the fight, but it will be McComb ending the undefeated streak of Ash.

Lightweight division action is up next as Alejandro “Alex” Garcia (14-5-0) is in action against Curtis “The Demon” Demarce (13-10-0). Garcia will enter the fight riding a two fight winning streak and he has previously fought UFC veteran Nate Diaz. Demarce has only won two of five in MFC competition, with those wins coming over Tyson Steele and Robert Washington. Garcia has been an unheralded MMA fighter for a long time now, but he will get some national spotlight when he defeats Demarce on AXS TV.

More lightweight action is up next as Jonatas “Peixe Frito” Novaes (11-4-0) does battle against Kurt “The Hurt” Southern (12-4-0). Novaes won the initial meeting of the two by submission, which took place at MFC 36 in February of this year. Southern has fought once since that defeat, beating Mukai Maromo by first round submission at MFC 37. This will be an interesting rematch to keep an eye on, but it will be Southern evening the score to give us a rubber match in the future.

The vacant MFC Middleweight Title is on the line next as Jason “The Mover” South (10-0-0) battles “Smilin’” Sam Alvey (20-5-0-1NC). South will be making his promotional debut in this fight, but he has defeated TUF alumni Kyacey Uscola. Alvey is also an alumni of the UFC Ultimate Fighter and last defeated UFC veteran Jay Silva at MFC 37. Alvey has already had a shot at the gold in a losing effort at MFC 36, but will rebound to get the championship the second time around.

Up next is a fight for the inaugural MFC Bantamweight Title as Tito Jones (10-6-0) takes on Anthony Birchak (10-1-0). Jones will enter the fight on the strength of a three fight winning streak and he has fought UFC veteran George Roop. Birchak is currently undefeated in MFC competition, having defeated Ryan Benoit be decision at MFC 37. Birchak already defeated the best bantamweight in the promotion in the aforementioned Benoit, so he will dominate Jones to become the champion.

Headlining this card is a fight for the vacant MFC Heavyweight Championship as Anthony Hamilton (10-2-0) faces Smealinho “The Prince” Rama (6-0-0). Hamilton will enter the fight riding a four fight winning streak and none of those fights went past the opening round. Smealinho is currently undefeated in MFC competition, having defeated Ryan Fortin and Mike Hackert respectively. This fight should not last very long, but it will be Rama remaining undefeated and taking the gold home.
