In what is a rare occasion, there will be two MMA events airing this weekend on AXS TV and it all kicks off on Friday Night with Legacy Fighting Championships 24. While the main card was hampered by an injury to UFC veteran Damacio Page, there is still a lot of good stuff to check out. That same rule will be applying to the preliminary card, which features ten fighters looking to make an impact in the promotion.
Kicking off the action is a featherweight division fight as Douglas Frey (10-10-0) competes against Hunter Tucker (5-1-0). Frey has only won one of his last seven fights, with two of those losses coming to UFC veterans Erik Perez and Chris Tickle. Tucker will be looking to rebound from his first professional MMA defeat, which came to Kevin Aguilar at Legacy FC 19. First loss aside, Tucker is becoming a highly touted MMA prospect and he will get back on track with a victory over Frey.
Welterweight division action is taking place next as Sean Holden (2-0-0) does battle against Melvin Jordan (0-1-0). Holden is currently undefeated in Legacy FC competition, having defeated Lior Shporen at Legacy FC 13. Jordan is currently winless as a professional MMA fighter, dropping a fight to Christopher Ray Lopez at Legacy FC 17. Holden and Jordan have not looked very good in the early stages of their careers, but it will be Holden remaining undefeated in the end.
A pair of bantamweights will battle next as Eliazar Rodriguez (4-2-0) faces Eli “Tomahawk†Tamez (5-0-0). Rodriguez has only fought once thus far in 2013, dropping a fight to Guido Martin Cannetti at Jackson’s MMA Series 11. Tamez is currently undefeated in Legacy FC competition, having defeated Nathan Torres at Legacy FC 16. This is a fight that should have been a part of the main card, but it will be Tamez keeping in undefeated streak intact.
Up next is a middleweight division fight as Evan Thompson (2-0-0) takes on Edgar “Manos De Piedra†Verdin (2-4-0). Thompson is currently undefeated as a professional MMA fighter, with both victories coming under the Legacy FC banner. Verdin has won two of his last three bouts, but is coming off of a loss to Hayward Charles at an Xtreme Knockout event. Verdin has not been all to spectacular as a pro fighter thus far and Thompson has, Thompson stays undefeated in this one.
Headlining this portion of the card is a bantamweight division fight as Matthew “SMG†Lozano (3-1-0) battles Klayton Mai (5-0-0). Lozano is coming off of a two fight run in the Bellator Fighting Championships, he won one of those two fights. Mai is currently undefeated as a professional MMA fighter, with none of his five fights going to the judge’s scorecard. This is another fight that is worthy of main card placement, but it will be Mai keeping his undefeated streak alive.
