One of the most anticipated events of the year is taking place this Saturday Night and that event is known as UFC 166. The pay-per-view card is one of the most loaded of the year and the same can be said for the Fox Sports 1 portion of the preliminary card. The preliminary card will feature former Strikeforce and Bellator champions, plus a key women’s division bout.
Kicking off the action is a lightweight division attraction as “King†KJ Noons (11-7-0) competes against George Sotiropoulos (14-5-0). Noons has only won one of his last six fights, with that lone win coming over Billy Evangelista at Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Masvidal. Sotiropoulos will enter the fight riding a three fight losing streak and he has not won a fight in almost three years. This is a must win fight if either fighter wants to remain with the UFC and it will be Sotiropoulos keeping his job.
A women’s bantamweight division fight is up next as Jessica “Evil†Eye (10-1-0) battles Sarah Kaufman (16-2-0). Eye will be making her UFC debut in this fight, but she has previously defeated former Bellator Women’s Flyweight Champion Zoila Gurgel. Kaufman will also be making her UFC debut in this fight and she is a former Strikeforce Women’s Bantamweight Champion. This is a potentially big fight in the division, but it will be Eye picking up the pivotal victory in her debut.
Up next is a welterweight division fight as Hector “Lightning†Lombard (32-4-1) takes on Nate “The Great†Marquardt (32-12-2). Lombard has only won one of three fights in the UFC and he is a former Bellator Middleweight Champion. Marquradt is currently winless in his second UFC run and he is a former Strikeforce Welterweight Champion. This is a must win fight if either competitor is to remain a contender in the division, but it will be Marquardt getting back in the win column.
Headlining this portion of the card is a middleweight division fight as Tim “The Barbarian†Boetsch (16-6-0) faces CB “The Doberman†Dollaway (13-4-0). Boetsch will enter the fight riding a two fight losing streak, with those losses coming to Costantinos Philippou and Mark Munoz. Dollaway will enter the fight riding a two fight winning streak, last defeating Daniel Sarafian at UFC On FX VII. Dollaway has been on the verge of being a contender for a long time now and he will get a step closer as he defeats Boetsch.
