WORLD SERIES OF FIGHTING VI PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 10/25/2013 8:50 AM

Usually it is the UFC that caps off a big weekend of MMA action, but this weekend will see that honor go to the World Series Of Fighting. The main card for the World Series Of Fighting VI will be headlined by the crowning the fight first ever welterweight champion. The preliminary card is loaded with fights, featuring a pair of UFC veterans and a Bellator veteran in action.

Kicking off the action is a featherweight division fight as Alexandre “Pulga” Pimentel (12-1-0) competes against Jade Porter (9-3-0). Pimentel is currently winless in WSOF competition, having dropped a fight to Rick Glenn at the WSOF II in March of this year. Porter will enter the fight riding a two fight losing streak and he has not won a fight in well over a full year. Both competitors need a win to rebound from recent struggles and it will be Pimentel getting that comeback win.

A pair of flyweights will duke it out as Chad “Robo” Robichaux (12-2-0) does battle against Andrew “The Golden Boy” Yates (7-0-0). Robichaux has not fought in well over a year, but his last fight was a victory over UFC veteran Joseph Sandoval. Yates will be making his WSOF debut in this fight, but he is a longtime veteran of Bush Cree Promotions. This fight has all the makings of an upset taking place, which is exactly what will be happening as Yates gets the win.

More featherweight action is up next as Nick LoBosco (6-0-0) will be in action against Fabio Mello (11-6-0). LoBosco is coming off of a successful three fight run in the Fight Hard MMA, with two of those three fights ending in the first round. Mello will enter the fight riding a seven fight winning streak and has previously fought UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo. LoBosco may have the better record, but Mello has fought the better competition and that experience will notch him the victory.

Another featherweight bout is next as Josh “The Finisher” Rettinghouse (9-2-0) stands across the cage from Alexis “The Exorcist” Vila (13-3-0). Rettinghouse will enter the fight riding a two fight winning streak, last defeating Jeff Hatton at Cage Sport 26. Vila has won two of three since his Bellator release, which came after a loss to Luis Nogueira at Bellator 65. Vila has been on a decent roll since leaving Bellator, but that roll will come to a halt as Rettinghouse gets the biggest win of his career.

Light heavyweight division action is next as Francisco “Kiko” France (8-3-0) takes on Hans Stringer (21-5-2). France has rotated wins and losses in his last five fights, which includes a victory over UFC veteran James McSweeney. Stringer will enter the fight riding a four fight winning streak, with only one of those four fights going to a decision. Stringer was a casualty of the Lew Polley weigh-in fiasco at the last WSOF event, he will get the win in his long anticipated promotional debut.

Up next is a lightweight division fight as Luiz “Buscape” Firmino (16-6-0) battles Jacob “Feelgood” Volkmann (16-4-0). Firmino enters the fight riding a three fight winning streak, with two of those wins coming over Bellator vet’s Luis Palomino and Toby Imada. Volkmann has been undefeated since his UFC release, which came after a loss to Bobby Green at UFC 156. Volkmann may be one of the most boring fighters on the scene today, but his style is effective and it will show as he defeats Firmino.

Headlining this portion of the card is a featherweight division fight as Pablo “The Hurricane” Alfonso (8-5-0) faces Miguel Torres (40-6-0). Alfonso will enter the fight riding a two fight winning streak, with both wins coming in the Championship Fighting Alliance. Torres will be making his debut as a featherweight in this bout, after competing as a bantamweight in the UFC and WEC. Torres has been falling hard in recent years, but will rebound to defeat Alfonso and get back into his former self.
