WORLD SERIES OF FIGHTING VI MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 10/25/2013 8:47 PM

When the World Series Of Fighting promotion closes out a weekend full of MMA events, it does so with a history making event. This particular event will be headlined by a bout to crown the first ever WSOF Welterweight Champion as Josh Burkman faces Steve Carl. Also, a pair of UFC veterans are competing and one of MMA’s fastest rising bantamweights are in action.

Kicking off the action is a lightweight division bout as Justin Gaethje (9-0-0) competes against Dan “The Upgrade” Lauzon (17-4-0). Gaethje is currently undefeated in WSOF competition, with victories over Gesias Cavalcante and Brian Cobb. Lauzon is also undefeated in WSOF competition, with his victory coming over John Gunderson at WSOF III. This is a highly underappreciated fight on this card, but it will be Gaethje keeping his rise to the top going.

Welterweights are stepping into the cage next as Marcelo “Grilo” Alfaya (15-6-0-1NC) battles Jon Fitch (24-6-1-1NC). Alfaya will enter the fight riding a three fight winning streak, with two of the wins coming in the Championship Fighting Alliance. Fitch is a UFC veteran who is winless in WSOF competition, dropping a fight to Josh Burkman at WSOF III. Fitch’s career as a top tier fighter could be on the line in this one, but he will be safe for now as he defeats Alfaya.

Up next is a bantamweight division fight as Carson “Little Juggernaut” Beebe (14-2-0) faces Marlon Moraes (11-4-1). Beebe is currently undefeated in WSOF competition, with a win coming over Joe Murphy at WSOF III. Moraes has is tied with Josh Burkman for the most WSOF appearances, having won all three of his previous bouts. This fight should have been for the inaugural bantamweight championship with the level of talent involved, but it will still be Moraes getting the win.

Headlining the card is a fight to crown the first WSOF Welterweight Champion as Josh “The Peoples Warrior” Burkman (26-9-0) takes on Steve Carl (20-3-0). Burkman is currently undefeated in WSOF competition, with all three wins coming over past UFC veterans. Carl is also undefeated in WSOF competition, last defeating Tyson Steel by submission at WSOF III. Burkman is quickly becoming the best welterweight not under a UFC deal right now and he will show why as he snatches up the gold.
