UFC FIGHTS FOR THE TROOPS III FOX SPORTS 1 PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 11/4/2013 9:08 PM

Say what you want about the fight card, but this week’s UFC Fights For The Troops III event is easily one of the best things the UFC does for the troops on a somewhat regular basis. Like most events that air on free TV, there will be a few fights on the preliminary card that are airing on Fox Sports 1. Of the preliminary card fights that are airing on Fox Sports 1, there will be a key women’s division battle and an interesting featherweight division bout.

Kicking off the action is a women’s bantamweight division fight as Amanda “Lioness” Nunes (8-3-0) competes against Germaine “The Iron Lady” De Randamie (4-2-0). Nunes is currently undefeated in UFC competition, having defeated Sheila Gaff via first round TKO at UFC 163. De Randamie is also undefeated in UFC competition, with her victory coming over Julie Kedzie at UFC On Fox VIII. These women are two of the better strikers in the division, but it will be Nunes remaining undefeated in UFC competition.

Featherweight division action is up next as Dennis “The Menace” Bermudez (11-3-0) battles “Super” Steven Siler (23-10-0). Bermudez will enter the fight riding a four fight winning streak, having last defeated Max Holloway at UFC 160. Siler has won five of six under the UFC banner, most notably defeating Mike Brown at UFC Fight Night 26. This is one of the more unheralded battles on the entire card, but it will be Bermudez getting the win either way.

Up next is a bantamweight division bout as Francisco “Cisco” Rivera (9-2-0-1NC) takes on George Roop (14-9-1). Rivera is currently undefeated in his second UFC run, last defeating Edwin Figueroa by TKO at UFC 156. Roop is currently undefeated as a bantamweight in the UFC, most notably defeating Brian Bowles at UFC 160. The winner of this bout should move onto bigger fights within their respective division and it will be Roop getting that opportunity.

Headlining this portion of the card is a lightweight division bout as “King” Bobby Green (20-5-0) faces James “The James Krause” Krause (20-4-0). Green is currently undefeated in UFC competition, having defeated Jacob Volkmann at UFC 156 this past February. Krause is also undefeated in UFC competition, with his victory coming over Sam Stout by submission at UFC 161. This is a much more important bout than the UFC has let on, but it will be Green staying undefeated in UFC competition.
