In a week that features two separate UFC events, it is nice to know that the event ending the week features one of the bigger main events on free TV as Vitor Belfort battles Dan Henderson. While the main card is stacked with quality bouts, the same exact thing can be said for the preliminary card. That preliminary card will feature a pair of key fights in both the lightweight division and featherweight division.
Kicking off the action is a flyweight division fight as Jose Maria “No Chance†Tome (33-4-0-2NC) competes against Dustin Ortiz (11-2-0). Tome is currently winless in UFC competition, having dropped a fight to John Lineker by TKO at UFC 163. Ortiz will be making his UFC debut in this fight, but he has previously competed against UFC veteran Ian McCall. Tome has a monumental experience advantage over Ortiz and that experience will carry him to his first UFC victory.
Lightweight division action is up next as “The Detroit Superstar†Daron Cruickshank (13-3-0) does battle against Adriano Martins (24-6-0). Cruickshank has won three of four under the UFC banner, most notably defeating Yves Edwards at UFC On Fox VIII. Martins will be making his UFC debut in this fight, but he is coming off of a victory over UFC veteran Jorge Gurgel. Cruickshanks striking style is one of the best in the UFC right now and that style will notch his fourth win in the promotion.
More lightweight division action is next as Justin “J-Bomb†Salas (11-4-0) takes on Thiago Tavares (17-5-1). Salas has won two of three under the UFC banner, last defeating Aaron Riley by decision at UFC ON Fox VIII. Tavares will be fighting for the fourth straight time in Brazil under the UFC banner, having won two of those previous bouts. This is a classic old guard versus new guard bout, but it will be the old guard in Tavares notching the victory.
Up next is a middleweight division encounter as Omari Akhmedov (11-0-0) battles Thiago “Bodao†Perpetuo (9-1-1). Akhmedov will be making his UFC debut in this fight and has only had two career fights go past the opening round. Perpetuo is currently undefeated in UFC competition, having defeated Leonardo Teixeira at UFC 147. This are two top prospects in the middleweight division, but it will be Perpetuo remaining undefeated in the UFC.
Headlining this portion of the card is a featherweight division fight as Godofredo “Pepey†Castro (9-2-0) faces Sam Sicilia (11-3-0). Castro has won one of three under the UFC banner, with that lone victory coming over Milton Viera at UFC On FX VII. Sicilia will enter the fight riding a two fight losing streak and he has not won a fight in well over a full year. This is a must win fight for both competitors if they are to remain employed by the UFC and it will be Castro saving his job for now.
