This weekend may be all about the UFC, but that does not mean that the sole focus of the MMA universe should be on a single event. Take for example the upcoming Bellator 108 card, which will feature the promotional debut of fan favorite Quinton “Rampage†Jackson. The preliminary card for the event is quite loaded as well, with a pair of UFC veterans and a WEC veteran in action.
Kicking off the action is a bantamweight division affair as Sergio “The Savage†Da Silva (1-4-0) competes against Robert Sullivan (2-1-0). Da Silva may not be entering the fight with the best of records as an MMA fighter, but he has fought in the highly touted Ring Of Combat promotion. Sullivan has rotated wins and losses thus far in his short MMA career, with his last fight being a victory over Dinis Paiva at a CES MMA event. Sullivan may not be the most fantastic MMA fighter out there at this stage of his career, but he has enough skills to defeat the overmatched Da Silva.
A pair of lightweights will step into the cage next as Ryan Cafaro (0-0-0) is in action against Dan Matala (0-0-0). Cafaro will be making his professional MMA debut in this fight and he will do so after winning five fights as an amateur. Matala will also be making his professional MMA debut in this fight, but has only fought once as an amateur in the last two years. Cafaro has been the more active fighter on the amateur circuit and that will help carry him to a win in his pro MMA debut.
More bantamweight action is up next as Kenny “The Tooth Fairy†Foster (10-7-0) does battle against Anthony “Cheesecake†Morrison (17-10-0-1NC). Foster has only achieved victory of his last six fights and he has not earned a victory in well over a full year. Morrison is a veteran of the WEC and he has only fought once in the last two years, defeating Jay Haas at Cage Fury Fighting Championships 13. These are two fighters who have been inactive for some time now, but it will be the WEC veteran in Morrison notching the victory.
Light heavyweight division action is taking place next as Liam McGeary (5-0-0) dukes it out with Najim Wali (0-0-0). McGeary has already fought twice under the Bellator banner, defeating both Anton Talamantes and Beau Tribolet. Wali will be making his professional MMA debut in this fight, but he does have experience competing as an amateur. Barring a pretty big upset from taking place, McGeary will dominate the debuting Wali to remain undefeated.
Another lightweight division fight is next as Will Martinez (7-2-1) takes on Kevin “K-Rod†Roddy (13-14-1-1NC). Martinez will enter the fight riding a six fight winning streak and he has previously fought UFC veteran Al Iaquinta. Roddy is currently undefeated in Bellator competition, with a victory coming over Brylan Van Artsdalen at Bellator 95. Roddy has seen a career resurrection in the last year or so, but that momentum will come to a halt as Martinez wins his seventh straight.
Up next is a light heavyweight division attraction as Tom DeBlass (8-2-0) battles Jason “The Punisher†Lambert (26-12-0). DeBlass has been undefeated since his UFC release, which came after a loss to Riki Fukuda at UFC On Fuel TV VI. Lambert has not fought in the UFC in well over five years, but he is undefeated in Bellator competition after a victory over Hector Ramirez at Bellator 85. These are two UFC veterans who may be on their last legs in the MMA world, but it will be DeBlass getting the win.
Headlining this portion of the card is a middleweight division battle as Chip “The Surgeon†Moraza-Pollard (7-5-0) faces Sam “Sammy O†Oropeza (9-2-0). Moraza-Pollard has only won one of his last four fights, with that lone victory coming over Ricardo Georges at Cage Titans X. Oropeza will enter the fight riding a four fight winning streak and he has previously competed against UFC veteran Myles Jury. Oropeza has a big opportunity to become the next big fighter to come out of Bellator and he will show why when he defeats Moraza-Pollard.
