There is another loaded weekend of MMA action upon us and nothing will be as big as this Saturday’s 20th anniversary event from the UFC. While the pay-per-view card is loaded with tons of great bouts, the same thing can be said about the Fox Sports 1 portion of the preliminary card. There will be four fights on this portion of the preliminary card, with a key lightweight division fight in the featured spot.
Kicking off the action is a bantamweight division fight as Erik “El Goyito†Perez (13-5-0) competes against Edwin “El Feroz†Figueroa (9-3-0). Perez has won three of four fights under the UFC banner, but he is looking to rebound from a defeat to Takeya Mizugaki. Figueroa has won two of five in UFC competition and will enter the fight riding a two fight losing streak. Perez has a very bright future ahead of him in the UFC and he will get back on track when he defeats Figueroa.
A pair of welterweights are battling next as Rick “The Horror†Story (15-7-0) battles Brian “Bad Boy†Ebersole (50-15-1-1NC). Story has rotated wins and losses in his last five fights, with his last fight being a loss to Mike Pyle at UFC 160. Ebersole has won four of five fights thus far in the UFC, but will be returning to action after being away for a year. This is a must win fight if either competitor is to remain relevant in the UFC and it will be Story getting the much needed win.
Up next is a middleweight division affair as Thales Leites (21-4-0) takes on Ed “Shirt Fuse†Herman (21-9-01NC). Leites is currently undefeated in his second UFC run, having defeated Tom Watson by decision at UFC 163. Herman is also undefeated in his second UFC run, with his victory coming over Trevor Smith at UFC On Fox VIII. The majority of this encounter should be contested on the ground, which is where Leites is superior and will get the win.
Headlining this portion of the card is a lightweight division bout as Evan Dunham (14-4-0) faces Donald “Cowboy†Cerrone (20-6-0-1NC). Dunham has won one of his last three fights, with that lone victory coming over Gleison Tibau at UFC 156. Cerrone has also only won one of his last three fights, with his lone win coming over KJ Noons at UFC 160. This should be one of the more exciting fights on the card and it will be Cerrone getting back in the win column.
