Hitting milestones is an important moment for any organization and the UFC will hit its biggest yet with the promotions 20th anniversary. The celebration will be making by a welterweight title bout as Georges St. Pierre defends the gold against Johny Hendricks. Also, Rashad Evans clashes with Chael Sonnen and there is a potential title eliminator in the welterweight division.
Kicking off the action is a flyweight division fight as Ali “Puncher King†Bagautinov (11-2-0) competes against Tim Elliot (10-3-1). Bagautinov is currently undefeated in UFC competition, having defeated Marcos Vinicius at UFC Fight Night 28. Elliot has won two of three under the UFC banner, most notably defeating Louis Gaudinot by decision at UFC 164. It is good to see the flyweights get a big spot on the pay-per-view, but it will be Elliot getting the win over Bagautinov.
A pair of welterweights will battle next as Josh “Kos†Koscheck (17-7-0) is in action against Tyron “The Chosen One†Woodley (11-2-0). Koscheck will enter the fight riding a two fight losing streak, dropping fights to Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler. Woodley has split both of his UFC fights, defeating Jay Hieron and suffering a defeat to Jake Shields. This fight has all the makings of a snooze festival and it will be Koscheck returning to form with a victory.
More welterweight action is up next as “Ruthless†Robbie Lawler (21-9-0-1NC) battles Rory “Ares†MacDonald (15-1-0). Lawler is currently undefeated in his second UFC run, defeating the duo of Josh Koscheck and Bobby Voelker. MacDonald will enter the fight riding a five fight winning streak, which includes a victory over the legendary BJ Penn. The winner of this fight could be in line for a welterweight title bout and it will be MacDonald getting that shot.
Up next is a light heavyweight division fight as Rashad “Suga†Evans (18-3-1) takes on Chael Sonnen (28-13-1). Evans has only won one of his last three bouts, with that lone victory coming over Dan Henderson at UFC 161. Sonnen has also won only one of his last three fights, with his lone victory coming over Mauricio Rua at UFC Fight Night 26. This is a must win bout if either fighter is to remain relevant in the division and it will be Sonnen getting that win.
Headlining this card is a UFC Welterweight Title fight as champion Georges “Rush†St. Pierre (24-2-0) defends against Johny “Bigg Rigg†Hendricks (15-1-0). St. Pierre will be making the ninth defense of his championship and he last defended it against Nick Diaz at UFC 158. Hendricks will enter the fight riding a six fight winning streak, with three of those victories coming over former welterweight title challengers. Hendricks is the most dangerous striker that St. Pierre has fought in recent title defenses, but St. Pierre will still walk away champion in the end.
