With the 2013 MMA calendar quickly coming to a close in just a little over a month, the Resurrection Fighting Alliance has chosen to end their great year of events with some big action this Friday. The event will be headlined by a bout to crown a new flyweight champion as Zach Makovsky battles Matt Manzanares. Also, a UFC veteran steps into the cage and the brother of former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Lyoto Machida will compete.
Kicking off the action is a bantamweight division encounter as Danny Mainus (2-1-0) competes against Scott Ingram (0-0-0). Mainus is currently winless in RFA competition, dropping a fight to Zac Chavez via split decision at FRA VII. Ingram will be making his professional MMA debut in this fight, but did win four of seven fights as an amateur. Mainus has looked good outside of the RFA and he will notch his first win inside of the RFA when he spoils the pro debut of Ingram.
A pair of middleweights are battling next as Todd “Captain America†Meredith (4-2-0) does battle against Andrew Sanchez (3-0-0). Meredith has won four of his last five fights and has only seen two bouts go past the opening round. Sanchez is returning to action after being away for a full year, but he has yet to have a fight go past the first round. These are two fighters who are known for their finishing abilities, but it will be the more active Meredith getting the win here.
Featherweight action will be happening next as Chinzo Machida (1-2-0) is in action against Brian Wood (4-3-0). Machida is returning to action after being away for three years and he is the brother of former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Lyoto Machida. Wood will enter the fight riding a three fight winning streak and has primarily competed in the Rocky Mountain Bad Boyz promotion. Machida is nothing like his more successful brother in the cage and it will be Woods proving that by getting the victory.
More middleweight action is up next as Vinnie Lopez (6-5-0) will stand across the cage from Lucas Rota (7-5-0). Lopez is currently winless in RFA competition, having dropped a fight to Billy Colon via submission at RFA VII. Rota will enter the fight riding a three fight winning streak and he is a veteran of the Jungle Fight promotion. These are two fighters who are in need of a win at this stage in their careers, but it will be Rota getting the win either way.
Up next is a featherweight division fight as Tyler “Thunder†Toner (14-5-0-1NC) takes on Raoni Barcelos (6-0-0). Toner has won three of five fights since his UFC release, which came after a loss to Ian Loveland at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 12 Finale. Barcelos is currently undefeated as a professional MMA fighter and he is a veteran of the Shooto promotion. Barcelos is in the biggest fight of his career in this one and he will notch the biggest win of his career as he defeats the UFC veteran.
Headlining this card is a bout for the vacant RFA Flyweight Title as Matt Manzanares (6-1-0) faces Zach “Fun Size†Makovsky (15-4-0). Manzanares has won two of three under the RFA banner and will enter the fight riding a two fight winning streak. Makovsky has been undefeated since his Bellator release, which came after a loss to Anthony Leone at Bellator 83. Makovsky has a lot more big fight experience than his opponent and that experience will help him become champion again.
