UFC FIGHT NIGHT 33 FOX SPORTS 2 PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 12/2/2013 8:52 PM

A barrage of big time MMA events is set to enter the MMA universe this weekend and one of the biggest cards of the weekend belongs to the UFC. The UFC’s return to Australia will have an event being headlined by heavyweight sluggers Mark Hunt and Antonio Silva. The Fox Sports 2 portion of the preliminary card is stacked as well, with a key fight in the featherweight division.

(Note: A bout originally set for the online streaming preliminary card between Bruno Santos and Krzysztof Jotko has been moved to the Fox Sports 2 portion of the card. Thus, the bout has already been previewed as part of the online streaming preliminary card preview and can be found there instead of on this particular preview.)

Kicking off the action is a flyweight division affair as Justin “Tank” Scoggins (7-0-0) battles Richie “Vas” Vaculik (9-1-0). Scoggins will be making his UFC debut in this fight and he is the current Warfare MMA Flyweight Champion. Vaculik will also be making his UFC debut in this fight and he is a veteran of the Cage Fighting Championships promotion. Scoggins was a champion heading into his UFC debut and he will use that experience to defeat Vaculik in their respective debuts.

Up next is a middleweight division fight as Caio “Hellboy” Magalhaes (6-1-0) takes on Nick “The Promise” Ring (13-2-0). Magalhaes has split both of his UFC bouts, defeating Karlos Vemola and suffering a defeat to Buddy Roberts. Ring has only won one of his last three fights, with that lone win coming over Court McGee at UFC 149. These are two competitors who are in a must win situation here, but it will be the more well-rounded Ring notching a victory.

Headlining this portion of the card is a featherweight division encounter as Takeya Mizugaki (18-7-2) faces Nam Phan (18-11-0). Mizugaki will enter the fight riding a three fight winning streak, most notably defeating Erik Perez at UFC Fight Night 27. Phan has rotated wins and losses in his last five UFC bouts, with his last fight being a loss to Dennis Siver at UFC On Fox V. MIzugaki has been on quite the tear as of late and he will continue that roll by defeating Phan in this one.
