As the calendar closes on 2013, it is still good to know that there are still some must watch events left from the UFC. The final “fight night†event of 2013 is going to be headlined by a huge heavyweight clash between Antonio Silva and Mark Hunt. Also, Mauricio Rua looks to get back on track and Anthony Perosh looks for the biggest win of his career.
Kicking off the action is a women’s bantamweight division bout as Bethe “Pitbull†Correia (6-0-0) competes against Julie “Fireball†Kedzie (16-12-0). Correia will be making her UFC debut in this fight, but she is a veteran of the top rated Jungle Fight promotion. Kedzie is currently winless in UFC competition, having dropped a fight to Germaine Da Randamie at UFC On Fox VIII. Kedzie has a huge experience advantage over Correia, but that will not be enough as Correia gets the win in her UFC debut.
Middleweights will step into the octagon next as Dylan “The Villain†Andrews (17-4-0-1NC) is in action against Clint Hester (8-3-0). Andrews is currently undefeated in UFC competition, defeating both Jimmy Quinlan and Papi Abedi respectively. Hester is also undefeated in UFC competition, with his win coming over Bristol Marunde at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale. This is a huge opportunity for both fighters as they compete on the main card, but it will be Andrew staying undefeated in UFC competition.
A pair of heavyweights will duke it out next as Pat “HD†Barry (8-6-0) does battle against Soa “The Hulk†Palelei (19-3-0). Barry has rotated wins and losses in his last five UFC fights, with his last fight being a loss to Shawn Jordan at UFC 161. Palelei is currently undefeated in his second UFC run, having defeated Nikita Krylov by third round TKO at UFC 164. This fight should be nothing short of a slugfest, but it will be Palelei getting his second UFC win in the end.
We move to the light heavyweight division for the next bout as Ryan “Darth†Bader (15-4-0) battles Anthony “The Hippo†Perosh (14-7-0). Bader has rotated wins and losses in his last four UFC appearances, with his last fight being a loss to Glover Teixeira at UFC Fight Night 28. Perosh has won four of his last five fights under the UFC banner, most notably defeating Vinny Magalhaes at UFC 163. Perosh has slowly built himself into a contender in the light heavyweight division and he will get closer to a title shot when he defeats Bader in this one.
Up next is a light heavyweight division bout as Mauricio “Shogun†Rua (21-8-0) takes on James Te Huna (16-6-0). Rua has only won one of his last four fights, with that lone victory coming over Brandon Vera at UFC On Fox IV. Te Huna has won four of his last five fights in UFC competition, but he is coming off of a loss to Glover Teixeira at UFC 160. Rua is not the same fighter that we saw during his time in PRIDE and that will show when Te Huna pulls the upset to get the biggest win of his career.
Headlining this card is a heavyweight division encounter as “The Super Samoan†Mark Hunt (9-8-0) faces Antonio “Bigfoot†Silva (18-5-0). Hunt has won four of six under the UFC banner, but is coming off of a top contender’s bout loss to Junior Dos Santos at UFC 160. Silva will be competing for the first time since losing a UFC Heavyweight Title bout to Cain Velasquez at UFC 160. A win for either fighter will get them back into title contention and it will be Hunt getting back into title contention.
