WORLD SERIES OF FIGHTING VII PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 12/6/2013 8:13 AM

A huge weekend of MMA action will conclude on Saturday Night with a big card from the World Series Of Fighting. The entire card will be headlined by the crowning of the first featherweight champion as Georgi Karakhanyan battles Lance Palmer. The preliminary card is worth checking out as well, with ten fighters looking to make an impact in the WSOF rankings.

Kicking off the action is a middleweight division encounter as Micah “Mitey” Brakefield (3-1-0) competes against Brendan Kornberger (3-0-0). Brakefield will be making his WSOF debut in this fight, after spending his entire career until this point in the Battlefield Fight League promotion. Kornberger will also be making his WSOF debut after a successful two fight run in the Maximum Fighting Championships promotion. This is a great way to kick off the WSOF debut in Canada, but it will be Kornberger remaining undefeated in the end.

A pair of lightweights will duke it out next as Myles “The Cowboy” Merola (10-7-0) is in action against “Dirty” Dan Ring (5-1-1). Merola has only won one of his last five fights, with that lone win coming over Tristan Connelly at Aggression Fighting Championships 13. Ring will be looking to rebound from his first professional MMA defeat, which came to Derek Boyle at Maximum Fighting Championships 34. Ring won the first meeting between the two early in their pro careers and he will get the win the second time around.

Featherweights will enter the decagon next as Shawn Albrecht (9-5-0) does battle against Gabriel Solorio (9-6-0). Albrecht will enter the fight riding a two fight winning streak and he is a veteran of the King Of The Cage promotion. Solorio has won four of his last five fights, with one of those victories coming over Strikeforce veteran Kaleo Kwan. These are two fighters with very similar records, but Solorio has fought better competition and that will show when he gets the victory.

Up next is a middleweight division attraction as Matt “The Riot Maker” Baker (9-4-0) faces David “Showtime” Perron (5-2-0). Baker has rotated wins and losses in his last five fights, he is also a veteran of the Battlefield Fight League promotion. Perron has only won one of his last three fights, plus none of his fights have yet to go to the judge’s scorecard. These are two fighters who need to get back on track with a victory and it will be Baker getting back on track.

Headlining this portion of the card is a welterweight division encounter as Richard Arsenault (9-2-0) battles Mike “The Messenger” Hill (5-2-0). Arsenault is a longtime veteran of the Elite 1 MMA promotion, winning six of seven fights in the promotion. Hill will enter the fight riding a two fight winning streak, with his last loss coming to recent WSOF signee Ryan Ford. Arsenault is on a pretty good run heading into his WSOF debut and that run will continue as he defeats Hill.
