WORLD SERIES OF FIGHTING VIII MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 1/17/2014 10:03 AM

The first World Series Of Fighting event is 2014 is upon up and it is a loaded card with a lot of implications for many fighters. The event itself will be headlined by a pair of title fights in both the lightweight and women’s strawweight divisions. Also, Anthony Johnson fights Mike Kyle in a slugfest and one of the WSOF’s best bantamweights returns to the cage.

Kicking off the action is a lightweight division bout as Luis “Baboon” Palomino (21-9-0) competes against Jorge “Macaco” Patino (35-14-2-1NC). Palomino will be making his WSOF debut in this fight, but he has previously defeated WSOF veteran Gesias Cavalcante at Championship Fighting Alliance VII. Patino will also be making his WSOF debut in this fight and he is a former Legacy Fighting Championships Lightweight Champion. This fight has been under the radar for a long time now, but it will be a great bout and Palomino will come out on top.

A pair of bantamweights will be in action next as Cody “Bam Bam” Bollinger (14-2-0-1NC) does battle against Tyson Nam (12-5-0). Bollinger will be making his WSOF debut in this fight and he was a cast member on the UFC Ultimate Fighter 18. Nam is currently winless under the WSOF banner, having dropped a fight to Marlon Moraes at the WSOF II. Nam is still one of the better bantamweights after a disappointing WSOF debut, but he will rebound to defeat Bollinger in this one.

The first WSOF Women’s Strawweight Champion will be crowned next as Jessica “Jag” Aguilar (16-4-0) battles Alida Gray (4-0-0). Aguilar is coming off of the two biggest victories of her career, as she defeated Japanese MMA legend Megumi Fujii twice in her last three fights. Gray will be making his WSOF debut in this fight and she is a veteran of the Sugar Creek Showdown promotion. Aguilar has faced far better competition than Gray and will handily defeat her to become the champion.

Up next is a light heavyweight division contest as Anthony “Rumble” Johnson (15-4-0) takes on Mike “MAK” Kyle (20-10-1-2NC). Johnson is currently undefeated in WSOF competition, defeating both DJ Linderman and Andrei Arlovski. Kyle is currently winless under the WSOF banner, having dropped a fight to Andrei Arlovski at the WSOF V. This fight should be nothing short of an exciting slugfest and it will be Johnson winning his third straight in the WSOF.

Headlining this card is a bout to crown the first WSOF Lightweight Champion as Justin Gaethje (10-0-0) faces Richard Patishnock (6-1-0). Gaethje has won all three of his previous bouts under the WSOF banner, last defeating UFC veteran Dan Lauzon at the WSOF VI. Patishnock is currently undefeated in WSOF competition, defeating both Igor Gracie and Gregor Gracie. Patishnock is a late replacement in this fight and that will hamper his readiness as Gaethje wins the championship.
