The final event of January is upon us this Saturday Night when the UFC presents its tenth offering on the Fox Network. While this event may not have the status of past UFC On Fox events, this is still an event that could have ramifications for the rest of 2014 for the UFC. The Fox Sports 1 portion of the preliminary card is stacked as well, with a key flyweight fight in the featured spot.
Kicking off the action is a welterweight division fight as Mike “Biggie†Rhodes (6-1-0) competes against George Sullivan (14-3-0-1NC). Rhodes will be making his UFC debut in this fight and he is the current Resurrect Fighting Alliance Welterweight Champion. Sullivan will be making his UFC debut riding a six fight winning streak, which includes a victory over UFC veteran Greg Soto. This is a huge opportunity for both competitors in this won, but it will be the RFA champion in Rhodes getting the win.
A pair of lightweight division competitors are battling next as Daron “The Detroit Superstar†Cruickshank (13-4-0) does battle against Mike “The Wolverine†Rio (9-3-0). Cruickshank has only won one of his last three under the UFC banner, with that lone win coming over Yves Edwards at UFC On Fox VIII. Rio will enter the fight riding a two fight losing streak, with those losses coming to Francisco Trinaldo and Tony Ferguson. These are two competitors in a must win situation, but it will be Cruickshank out striking Rio to get the victory.
Featherweight division action will be taking place next as Ramiro “Junior†Hernandez (13-5-0) is in action against Hugo “Wolverine†Viana (7-1-0). Hernandez is currently winless under the UFC banner, dropping a fight to Lucas Martins at UFC Fight Night 28. Viana has won two of three fights in UFC competition, but is coming off of a loss to TJ Dillashaw at UFC On Fox VII. Viana was looking really good before running into Dillashaw, but he will rebound to defeat Hernandez in this one.
We move to the bantamweight division for the next bout as Chico “King†Camus (13-4-0) battles Yaotzin Meza (20-8-0). Camus has won two of his three fights in the UFC, with a notable victory over Dustin Pague at UFC 150. Meza will be looking to build on the momentum of his first UFC win, which came over John Albert at UFC On Fox VIII. Camus is quickly rising to become a contender in the division and he will continue to rise in the rankings when he defeats Meza.
Up next is a bantamweight division attraction as Yves “Tiger†Jabouin (19-8-0) takes on Eddie Wineland (20-9-1). Jabouin has won four of six fights while competing in the UFC and he is coming off of a victory over Dustin Pague at UFC 161. Wineland is competing for the first time since losing a UFC Interim Bantamweight Title Fight to Renan Barao at UFC 165. Wineland was a title challenger for a good reason and he will get back on the road to a title shot be defeating Jabouin.
Headlining this portion of the card is a flyweight division affair as Alex “Bruce Leroy†Caceres (9-5-0-1NC) faces Sergio “The Phenom†Pettis (10-0-0). Caceres will enter the fight riding a three fight winning streak, last defeating Roland Delorme at UFC 165. Pettis was successful in his UFC debut, having defeated Will Campuzano by unanimous decision at UFC 167. This is a much more important fight in the flyweight division than most people think, but it will be Pettis coming out on top.
