LEGACY FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS 27 PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 1/27/2014 6:50 PM

Kicking off another big week on MMA action with be another loaded card from the Legacy Fighting Championships. The main card will feature plenty of great bouts, all being headlined by UFC veteran Tim Means in action. The preliminary card will only be seen by those in attendance and it will feature plenty of fighters making their pro debuts.

Kicking off the action is a lightweight division bout as John Gorrell (0-0-0) competes against John Hayden (0-0-0). Gorrell will be making his professional MMA debut in this fight after a poor run as an amateur, only winning two of five fights. Hayden will also be making his professional MMA debut in this fight and not much is known about his amateur run. Pro debuts are always interesting to watch, but Gorrell has more amateur experience and that will carry him to a victory.

A pair of welterweight fighters will enter the cage next as Aaron Reeves (0-0-0) does battle against Jason Felton (0-2-0). Reeves will be making his professional MMA debut in this fight and he did go undefeated as an amateur fighter. Felton is currently winless as a professional MMA fighter, dropping fights to both Matthew Moses and Carlos Martinez. Felton may have more pro experience, but his poor efforts will go against him as Reeves starts off his pro run undefeated.

Middleweight division action is next up on the card as Trevin Giles (0-0-0) takes on Angelus McFarlane (0-1-0). Giles will be making his professional MMA debut in this fight and he did go undefeated during his time as an amateur. McFarlane is currently winless as a professional MMA fighter, dropping a fight to Evan Thompson at Legacy FC 19. This is pretty much a pick ‘em as pick ‘ems go. But it will be Giles turning his pro debut into a successful debut.

Up next is a featherweight division attraction as James Gonzalez (1-2-0) will battle Jeremy Mahon (3-4-0). Gonzalez has rotated wins and losses throughout his pro career, with his last fight being a loss to Alex Black at a Big Dawg Promotions event. Mahon has won three of his last four fights and he made his pro debut almost seven years ago against UFC veteran Daniel Pineda. This is a must win situation for both competitors in this one and it will be Mahon getting the much needed win.

Headlining this portion of the card is a welterweight division battle as Rashid “The Black Spartan” Abdullah (3-6-0) faces Charlie “The American Bad Boy” Ontiveros (4-1-0). Abdullah will enter the fight riding a four fight losing streak and he has not won a fight in well over two years. Ontiveros has spent his entire career in the Legacy FC promotion, last defeating Kaileb Cummins at Legacy FC 25. Ontiveros is the only fighter on the preliminary card with a winning record and he will keep it that way when he defeats Abdullah.
