The first Cage Warriors event of 2014 is upon us and the UK-based promotion is putting on another must see card. The event is loaded with fights with twelve total fights split up between the main card and preliminary card. The preliminary card features a lot of top international prospects, including a key women’s MMA encounter.
Kicking off the action is a bantamweight division attraction as Daniel Crawford (2-0-0) competes against Huseyin Garabet (3-5-0). Crawford will be making his Cage Warriors debut in this fight after spending his career in the Ultimate Challenge MMA promotion. Garabet has only won one of his last five fights, with a span of two years in between those two victories. Garabet is the most experienced fighter that Crawford has faced, but Crawford will overcome that to remain undefeated.
Middleweight division action is up next as Damien Forgie (3-0-0) is in action against Andrei “Mojo†Manzolo (3-2-0). Forgie is returning to the promotion after a three year absence, but has one a lone fight in between appearances. Manzolo has rotated wins and losses throughout his professional MMA career, with his last fight being a victory over Milan Tomes at a Head To Head MMA event. Manzolo has not been the most consistent of fighters, which Forgie will take advantage of to keep his undefeated streak alive.
More middleweight division action is up next as Andy Kerr (4-3-0) will stand across the cage from Charlie Watts (4-1-0). Kerr has rotated wins and losses in his last five MMA bouts and has not put a win streak together in over three years. Watts has won three of four under the Cage Warriors banner, last defeating Ben Constantine at Cage Warriors 60. Watts is quickly establishing himself as a contender in Cage Warriors and he will continue to become one when he defeats Kerr in this one.
A pair of women’s strawweight fighters will clash next as Kirsty Davies (0-0-0) battles Veera Nykanen (0-0-0). Davies will be making her professional MMA debut in this fight, but she did go undefeated as an amateur fighter. Nykanen will also be making her professional MMA debut in this fight, with little being known of her amateur run. Davies was had a great run while fighting as an amateur and she will start off her professional career with a win as she defeats Nykanen.
Up next is a flyweight division attraction as Cameron “Killer Cam†Else (2-1-0) takes on Spencer “The Hurt Locker†Hewitt (10-7-0). Else is currently undefeated in Cage Warriors competition, having defeated Patrick PImblett at Cage Warriors 60. Hewitt will enter the fight riding a four fight winning streak and he has not won a fight in well over a year. Hewitt has not been doing too well as of late and his bad luck is going to continue when Else picks up the biggest win of his career.
Headlining this portion of the card is a lightweight division affair as David Howell (5-4-0) faces Brad “The Crazy Kid†Wheeler (10-9-0). Howell has only won one of his last four fights, with that lone win coming over Scott Rogan at Ultimate Warrior Challenge 23. Wheeler has rotated wins and losses in his last six fights, with his last fight being a win over Aymard Guih at Cage Warriors 56. These are two fighters who are in a desperate need of a victory and it will be Wheeler getting that much needed win.
