The first Cage Warriors event of 2014 is coming up this Saturday and it is a card loaded with some of the best international prospects around today. The event will be headlined by a key bantamweight division battle between James Pennington and Cory Tait. Also, there is another key women’s division battle and a lot of top MMA prospects will be stepping into the cage.
Kicking off the action is a welterweight division bout as Matt Inman (12-5-0) competes against Gregor Weibel (8-1-0). Inman has won three of four under the Cage Warriors banner, last defeating Bagautdin Sharaputdinov at Cage Warriors 64. Weibel will be making his Cage Warriors debut in this fight and will do so while riding a three fight winning streak. Inman has been on a great run in Cage Warriors as of late and that run will continue as he defeats Weibel.
A pair of lightweights will be in action next as Benjamin Brander (6-0-0) is in action against Nad Narimani (6-1-0). Brander will be making his Cage Warriors debut in this fight and he is a veteran of the Shooto Switzerland promotion. Narimani will be looking to build of the momentum of his first Cage Warriors win, which came over Athinodoros Michailidis as Cage Warriors 60. These are two of the better lightweight prospects out there at the moment, but it will be Brander keeping his undefeated streak alive in this one.
Women’s featherweight division action is up next as Laura “Hot Head†Howarth (1-0-0) dukes it out with Amanda Kelly (1-0-0). Howarth made her professional MMA debut at Cage Warriors 63, where she defeated Emma Delaney at Cage Warriors 62. Kelly made her professional MMA debut back at Cage Warriors 60, where she defeated Hannah Stephens. This is a huge opportunity for both competitors in this one, but it will be Kelly keeping her undefeated streak by defeating Howarth.
More welterweight division action is up next as Danny “Hot Chocolate†Roberts (9-1-0) battles Juan Manuel “Juanma†Suarez (13-5-0). Roberts is currently undefeated under the Cage Warriors banner, last defeating Henry Fadipe at Cage Warriors 57. Suarez has only won one of his last six bouts, with that lone win coming over Erik Oganov at M-1 Challenge 33. Suarez has been on quite the downfall lately and that downfall will continue as Roberts keeps his streak going.
Up next is a middleweight division attraction as Boubcar Balde (9-7-0) takes on “Brutal†Jake Bostwick (13-8-0-1NC). Balde has only won one of his last four fights and he has not won a fight in just about a full year at this point. Bostwick is currently undefeated in Cage Warriors competition, having defeated Vincent Del Guerra at Cage Warriors 61. Bostwick is quickly rising through the ranks in Cage Warriors and that rise will continue on as he defeats Balde.
Headlining this card is a bantamweight division bout as James “Power Weasel†Pennington (9-1-0) faces Cory “Capcom†Tait (7-2-0). Pennington is currently undefeated in Cage Warriors competition, with a notable victory over Kris Edwards at Cage Warriors 59. Tait will make his Cage Warriors debut riding a three fight winning streak and he is a veteran of the Ultimate Challenge MMA promotion. Pennington could be a victory away from a potential title shot and he will get that win to earn a title opportunity.
