For the second time in three months, UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey will once again be defending the championship. This time, the champion will be defending the gold against fellow undefeated Olympic medalist Sara McMann. Also, Daniel Cormier makes his light heavyweight debut and Rory MacDonald battles Demian Maia in a key welterweight battle.
Kicking off the action is a welterweight division attraction as Stephen “Wonderboy†Thompson (8-1-0) competes against Robert “The Reaper†Whittaker (11-3-0). Thompson will enter the fight riding a two fight winning streak, last defeating Chris Clements at UFC 165. Whittaker was the winner of the UFC Ultimate Fighter: The Smashes, but he is coming off of a loss to Court McGee. This fight should be nothing short of a striking exchange for as long as the fight lasts, but it will be Thompson coming out on top either way.
More welterweight division action will occur next as Mike “Quicksand†Pyle (25-9-1) does battle against TJ Waldburger (16-8-0). Pyle has won four of his last five fights under the UFC banner, with a notable victory over Rick Story at UFC 160. Waldburger has rotated wins and losses in his last four fights, with his last fight being a loss to Adlan Amagov at UFC 166. This is a classic youth versus experience battle, but it will be the youth in Waldburger getting the victory.
Another welterweight division fight is next as Rory “Ares†MacDonald (15-2-0) battles Demian Maia (18-5-0). MacDonald will be looking to rebound from his first loss in over three years, with that loss coming to Robbie Lawler at UFC 167. Maia has won three of four as a welterweight in the UFC, most notably defeating Jon Fitch at UFC 156. This is a huge bout with a potential title shot going to the winner, which is going to be MacDonald when it’s all said and done.
Up next is a light heavyweight division encounter as Daniel Cormier (13-0-0) takes on Patrick “Durkin†Cummins (4-0-0). Cormier will be making his light heavyweight debut in this fight after spending his entire career in the heavyweight division. Cummins will be making his UFC debut in this fight, but he does have experience competing in Strikeforce. Cummins has no shot winning this fight and it will be Cormier easily defeating him to make a successful divisional debut.
Headlining this card is a UFC Women’s Bantamweight Title Fight as champion “Rowdy†Ronda Rousey (8-0-0) defends against Sara McMann (7-0-0). Rousey will be making the third defense of her championship, last defending it against Miesha Tate at UFC 168. McMann made her UFC debut at UFC 159 when she defeated Sheila Gaff by TKO in the opening round. McMann is going to shock a lot of people in this fight when she outwrestles Rousey to win the championship.
