The tenth season of Bellator is upon us and the fans of the promotion are getting a great card for the tenth season debut. That is because both Quinton “Rampage†Jackson and King Mo are in the two headlining bouts on the card. Also, UFC veteran Diego Nunes and longtime Bellator vet Mike Richman are competing in featherweight tournament bouts.
Kicking off the action is a featherweight tournament opening round bout as Scott Cleve (14-3-0) competes against Daniel “The Weasel†Weichel (31-8-0). Cleve is currently undefeated in Bellator competition, having defeated Isaac De Jesus at Bellator 102. Weichel will enter the tournament riding a three fight winning streak and he is a longtime veteran if the M-1 Challenge promotion. These are two fighters who are getting a big opportunity in this one, but it will be Weichel coming out on top.
More featherweight tournament opening round action is next as Desmond “The Predator†Green (9-2-0) does battle against Mike “The Marine†Richman (16-3-0). Green will be looking to build off the momentum of his first Bellator win, which came over Angelo Sanchez at Bellator 105. Richman has competed in two previous tournament, making it to both the semi-finals and finals respectively. Richman has a lot of previous tournament experience and it will be that experience which carries him to a win in this one.
Another featherweight tournament opening round bout is next as Matt “The Mangler†Bessette (12-4-0) battles Diego “The Gun†Nunes (18-5-0). Bessette is currently undefeated in Bellator competition, but this will be his first tournament appearance. Nunes is a UFC veteran who was part of the season nine featherweight tournament, but lost to Patricio Freire in the first round. Bessette has been looking for the opportunity to break out and he will as he upsets the UFC veteran to advance to round two.
Up next is a light heavyweight tournament opening round bout as Muhammed “King Mo†Lawal (11-3-0-1NC) takes on Mikhail Zayats (22-7-0). Lawal is coming off of a loss to Emmanuel Newton, a bout that was for the Bellator Interim Light Heavyweight Title. Zayats competed in the season eight light heavyweight tournament, losing to Emmanuel Newton in the finals. These are two fighters looking for one more shot at the gold, but it will be Lawal advancing to the last round.
Headlining this card is a light heavyweight tournament opening round bout as Christian “Tonton†M’Pumbu (18-5-1) faces Quinton “Rampage†Jackson (33-11-0). M’Pumbu is a former Bellator Light Heavyweight Champion and he is fighting for the first time since losing the title. Jackson is currently undefeated in Bellator competition, defeating UFC veteran Joey Beltran at Bellator 108. M’Pumbu is a stern challenge for Jackson, but Jackson will use his excellent striking skills to get the victory.
