UFC ULTIMATE FIGHTER CHINA FINALE MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 2/26/2014 3:31 PM

The end of the UFC Ultimate Fighter China’s historic first season is upon us and what a better way to end it than with the second live event on UFC Fight Pass. The event will be headlined by a crucial welterweight division bout as Dong Hyun Kim faces John Hathaway. Also, the TUF China Welterweight Finals will take place and there is a key heavyweight division bout on the card.

Kicking off the action is a featherweight division fight as Hatsu Hioki (26-7-2) competes against “The Pride Of El Salvador” Ivan Menjivar (25-11-0). Hioki will enter the fight riding a three fight losing streak and he has not won a fight in just over two years. Menjivar has only won one of his last four fights, with that lone win coming over Azamat Gashimov at UFC 154. This is a must win situation for both competitors, but it will be Menjivar getting back on track with a win.

Bantamweight division action is up next as Vaughan Lee (13-9-1) does battle against Nam Phan (18-12-0). Lee has rotated wins and losses throughout his UFC run, with his last fight being a loss to Raphael Assuncao at UFC On Fuel TV X. Phan has only won two of seven bouts under the UFC banner and he will enter this fight on a two fight losing streak. This is another must win situation for a fight on this card, but it will be the more exciting Phan getting on track with a victory.

A pair of heavyweights will clash next as Shawn “The Savage” Jordan (15-5-0) takes on Matt “Meathead” Mitrione (6-3-0). Jordan has won three of five fights under the UFC banner, with a notable win coming over Pat Barry at UFC 161. Mitrione has only won one of his last four in UFC competition, with that lone win coming over Philip De Fries at UFC On Fuel TV IX. Mitrione has been on quite the fall as of late and that fall will continue when Jordan picks up another quality UFC win.

Up next is the TUF China Welterweight Finals as Lipeng Zhang (6-7-1) battles Wang “The Boss” Sai (6-4-1). Zhang will enter the fight riding a two fight losing streak and he is one of a short list of fighters to compete in the UFC with a losing record. Sai has rotated wins and losses in his last six bouts, plus he has not competed in a pro bout in well over a year. This is a historical fight for both the UFC and the Chinese MMA scene, but it will be Sai winning the finals.

Headlining this card is a welterweight division bout as John “The Hitman” Hathaway (17-1-0) faces Dong Hyun “Stun Gun” Kim (18-2-1-1NC). Hathaway will enter the fight riding a three fight winning streak, but he has not competed in well over a year. Kim will also enter the fight riding a three fight winning streak, last defeating Erick Silva at UFC Fight Night 29. This is a huge welterweight division fight, but inactivity is going to hurt Hathaway as Kim picks up the big win.
