CAGE WARRIORS 65 MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 2/28/2014 7:56 AM

Finishing off a weekend that features four big MMA events will be another stellar event from the Cage Warriors promotion. Headlining the card will be a welterweight division clash between UFC veteran John Maguire and Saul Rogers. Also, UFC veteran Ben Alloway competes and some of the best international prospects will be in action as well.

Kicking off the action is a welterweight division battle as Aldric Cassata (7-5-0-1NC) competes against Philip “The Honeybadger” Mulpeter (6-4-0). Cassata has only won one of his last four bouts, with one of those losses coming to longtime MMA veteran Fabio Nascimento. Mulpeter has only won one of three under the Cage Warriors banner, with that lone win coming over Warren Kee at Cage Warriors 56. This fight is not a main card worthy bout in my opinion, but it will be Mulpeter walking away with the victory.

Lightweight division action is up next as Damien Brown (10-5-0) does battle against Paul “Redser” Redmond (8-4-0). Brown is currently winless in Cage Warriors competition, dropping a fight to Julien Boussuge at Cage Warriors 61. Redmond has won five of six fights under the Cage Warriors banner, with none of those fights going past the opening round. Redmond has been on an incredible role in Cage Warriors and his roll will continue when he hands Brown another defeat.

A pair of flyweights are competing next as Bryan Creighton (5-1-0) stands across the cage from Damien “The Rage” Rooney (9-3-1). Creighton is currently undefeated in Cage Warriors competition, defeating both Mark Connor and Spencer Hewitt. Rooney will be making his Cage Warriors debut in this fight and he is a longtime veteran of the Cage Contenders promotion. Rooney has looked good outside of Cage Warriors competition, but he will suffer a loss in his promotional debut against Creighton.

We move to the bantamweight division for the next match as Alex Enlund (9-2-0-1NC) battles Artem “The Prospect Killer” Lobov (8-7-0-1NC). Enlund has won three of four under the Cage Warriors banner and will enter the fight riding a two fight winning streak. Lobov is currently winless in Cage Warriors competition, dropping a fight to Jay Furness at Cage Warriors Fight Night VII. This one seems like a huge mismatch, but Lobov will put up a great fight as Enlund still pulls out the win in the end.

Up next is a welterweight division attraction as Ben “Benny Blanco” Alloway (12-5-0) takes on Jack “The Stone” Mason (26-12-0). Alloway will be competing for the first time since his UFC release, which came after a loss to Zak Cummings at UFC Fight Night 27. Mason has won five of six fights in his second Cage Warriors run, most notably defeating Matt Inman at Cage Warriors 52. Mason has long been looking for the breakout fight to get to the next level and he will pick up that pivotal victory over the UFC veteran.

Headlining this card is a welterweight division bout as John “The One” Maguire (19-6-0) faces Saul “The Hangman” Rogers (7-1-0). Maguire has been undefeated since his UFC release, having defeated Philip Mulpeter at Cage Warriors 63. Rogers is currently undefeated in Cage Warriors competition, having defeated Jason Cooledge at Cage Warriors 57. The winner of this fight could be in line for a welterweight title shot and it will be Maguire getting that opportunity.
