The tenth season of the Bellator Fighting Championships kicked off in spectacular fashion last week and we are ready for week number two on Friday Night. This week’s event will not only feature a bantamweight title bout, but the start of the heavyweight tournament as well. The preliminary card is loaded with six fights well, with a heavyweight tournament opening round bout in the featured spot.
Kicking off the action is a featherweight division affair as Stephen Banaszak (2-1-0) competes against Treston Thomison (7-1-0). Banaszak will be looking to rebound from his first professional MMA defeat, which came to William Walker at Xtreme Knockouts 21. Thomison will enter the fight riding a three fight winning streak and he is a veteran of the King Of The Cage promotion. Thomison looked great during his run in the KOTC promotion and he will look great by defeating Banaszak in his Bellator debut.
A pair of lightweights will clash next as Chris “Lionheart†Jones (8-2-0) is in action against Brent Primus (4-0-0). Jones is currently undefeated in Bellator competition, having defeated Steven Peterson at Bellator 62. Primus has already won his previous two bouts in Bellator and he has yet to have a fight go past the opening round. These are two competitors who are known for their finishing abilities, but it will be Primus remaining undefeated in the end.
Light heavyweight action is up next as Matt Jones (4-6-0) stands across the cage from Emiliano “He-Man†Sordi (12-4-0). Jones will enter the fight riding a three fight losing streak and he has not won a fight in well over a year. Sordi has won six of his last seven bout and he has only had one career fight go to the judge’s scorecard. This fight seems like a huge mismatch from the get go, but it will be Sordi easily picking up his first Bellator victory.
We move to the heavyweight division for the next bout as Javy “Eye Candy†Ayala (6-3-0) battles Eric “The American Soldier†Prindle (8-4-0-1NC). Ayala is currently undefeated in Bellator competition, having defeated Thiago Santos at Bellator 102. Prindle has only won one of his last four fights and is best known for his disastrous series of fights with Thiago Santos. Ayala shocked Bellator when he defeated Santos and he will shock Bellator fans again when he defeats Prindle.
Up next is a middleweight division attraction as Cortez “The Crazy Cowboy†Coleman (9-5-0) takes on Daniel Miller (4-2-0). Coleman has won one of three fights under the Bellator banner, which includes a loss to Strikeforce veteran Keith Berry. Miller has won just one of three headlining into his promotional debut and he is a veteran of the Element Fighting Championships promotion. This is a must win situation for both competitors, but it will be Coleman coming out on top with a victory.
Headlining this portion of the card is a heavyweight tournament opening round bout as Rich “Rare Breed†Hale (21-6-1) faces Blagoi Ivanov (9-0-0). Hale made it to the finals of the season eight heavyweight tournament, losing to Alexander Volkov in the finals. Ivanov has won all four of his previous Bellator bouts and none of those bouts went past the second round. This fight should be nothing short of a violent slugfest, but it will be Ivanov advancing to the next round.
