BELLATOR 112 MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 3/11/2014 9:56 PM

Some of the best MMA events in history features a rubber match between two fierce competitors and Bellator 112 is one of those events. That is because current Bellator Featherweight Champion Daniel Straus will defend the gold against Pat Curran in the third encounter between the two. Also, the welterweight tournament kicks off and a UFC veteran is a part of the tournament field.

Kicking off the action is a welterweight tournament opening round bout as Jesse Juarez (21-8-0) competes against Adam McDonough (9-0-0). Juarez is currently undefeated in Bellator competition, last defeating Joe Williams by submission at Bellator 106. McDonough achieved a win in his promotional debut at Bellator 100, defeating Johnny Buck. Juarez has waited a long time to finally get into a tournament and his patience will pay off when he defeats McDonough.

More welterweight tournament opening round action is up next as Cristiano “Soldier Boy” Souza (7-0-0) battles Sam “Sammy O” Oropeza (10-2-0). Souza has won all three of his previous Bellator appearances and he has only fought three times in the last three years. Oropeza has won two of three under the Bellator banner, most notably defeating Shedrick Goodridge at Bellator 95. Souza is known for his very entertaining striking style and he will use that style to advance to the second round.

Up next is a welterweight tournament opening round bout as Nah-Shon “The Rock-N-Rolla” Burrell (10-3-0-1NC) faces Andrey “Spartan” Koreshkov (14-1-0). Burrell has been undefeated since his UFC release, which came after a loss to Stephen Thompson at UFC 160. Koreshkov won the season eight welterweight tournament, but then lost a subsequent title bout to Ben Askren at Bellator 97. Koreshkov has already won a past tournament and he will get a step closer to another tournament crown when he defeats Burrell.

Headlining this card is a Bellator Featherweight Title fight as champion Daniel Straus (22-4-0) defends against Pat “Paddy Mike” Curran (19-5-0). Straus will be making the first defense of his championship, which he won by defeating Curran at Bellator 106. Curran won the initial meeting between the two at Xtreme Fighting Organization 29, he won by second round TKO. There was a lot of controversy surrounding the bout when it was announced, but Curran will win the rubber match to take the gold home again.
