BELLATOR 113 PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 3/17/2014 11:17 AM

History will be made this Friday Night for Bellator as the promotion will hold its first title unification bout at Bellator 113. That unification bout will pit Bellator Light Heavyweight Champion Attila Vegh against Bellator Interim Light Heavyweight Champion Emanuel Newton. The preliminary card is loaded as well, including a lightweight tournament bout and a UFC veteran in action.

Kicking off the action is a featherweight division contest as Cody Carrillo (5-7-0) competes against Israel “El Rojo” Giron (17-3-0). Carrillo has only won two of his last six bouts, with one of those losses coming to UFC veteran Tyler Toner. Giron has won twelve of his last thirteen bouts, but he has not competed in a bout in well over a full year. Giron may have been out of action for a while now, but his experience will help him defeat a vastly over matched Carrillo.

A pair of heavyweights will collide next as Daniel Gallemore (2-2-0) is in action against Maurice “The Gorilla” Jackson (2-1-0-3NC). Gallemore is currently undefeated in Bellator competition, having defeated Derrick Ruffin at Bellator 56. Jackson is also undefeated in Bellator competition and he has only fought two times in the last six years. Jackson's lack of activity is going to hurt him here as Gallemore pulls out the win to stay undefeated in Bellator.

Middleweight division action will be happening next as Brian “The Professional Predator” Rogers (10-6-0) does battle with Gary “Freak Train” Tapusoa (8-2-0). Rogers has competed in three previous Bellator tournaments, but he never advanced past the semi-finals. Tapusoa will make his Bellator debut on a two fight losing streak, but he has not competed in well over a year. Rogers is looking to get another opportunity in a Bellator tournament and he will get one when he defeats Tapusoa.

We move to the bantamweight division for the next encounter as Taurean “Tory” Bogguess (10-7-0) dukes it out with LC Davis (20-6-0). Bogguess has won five of his last six bouts, with that lone loss coming to Bellator veteran Will Brooks. Davis has won four of his last five fights and he is a veteran of the World Extreme Cagefighting promotion. Davis has long been underrated as an MMA fighter and he will get an opportunity to break through as he defeats Bogguess in this one.

More featherweight division action will happen next as Donnie “Da Bomber” Bell (8-2-0) battles Eric “Little Lee” Wisely (21-8-0). Bell is currently undefeated in Bellator competition, having defeated Marcio Navarro at Bellator 103. Wisely has been undefeated since his UFC release, which came after a loss to Jason Young at UFC On Fuel TV II. Wisely has been on fire since getting his UFC release and he will continue his winning ways when he defeats Bell.

Up next is a lightweight division attraction as Bobby “Super Dooper” Cooper (8-3-0) takes on Marcio “The Locomotive” Navarro (9-10-0). Cooper will make his Bellator debut riding a three fight winning streak and he has not lost a fight in almost two years. Navarro has only won one of his last four fights, with that lone victory coming over Aaron Derrow at Titan Fighting Championships 25. Navarro is a lot better than his record suggest, but Cooper is still better and he will notch the win in this bout.

Headlining this portion of the card is a lightweight tournament opening round bout as Derek Anderson (10-0-0) faces Brandon Girtz (10-3-0). Anderson pulled a big upset in his Bellator debut, defeating Patricky Freire by unanimous decision at Bellator 98. Girtz has won three of four under the Bellator banner, most notably defeating Poppies Martinez at Bellator 102. These are two fighters who are on big rolls heading into the tournament, but it will be Anderson advancing to the next round.
