With four major MMA events taking place this weekend, it is shocking to think that the only event airing on Saturday will be Cage Warriors 66. The event will see the crowning of a brand new welterweight champion as Sergei Churilov faces Nicolas Dalby. Also, UFC veteran John Maguire makes his third Cage Warriors appearance and Bruno Carvalho looks to get closer to a title shot.
Kicking off the action is a featherweight division affair as Robbie “The Flame†Olivier (20-9-1-1NC) competes against Martin Svensson (12-5-0). Olivier is currently undefeated in Cage Warriors competition, having defeated Patrik Berisha at Cage Warriors 56. Svensson is currently winless under the Cage Warriors banner, dropping a fight to Jim Alers at Cage Warriors 59. Svensson's lone promotional appearance was part of the featherweight title tournament and he will get closer to another opportunity when he hands Olivier his first Cage Warriors defeat.
A pair of middleweights will collide next as Jack “The Hammer†Hermansson (5-2-0) does battle against Enoc Solves Torres (13-6-0). Hermansson is coming off of a poor run the the Bellator Fighting Championships, dropping both of his fights in the promotion. Torres will be making his Cage Warriors debut in this bout and he will be doing so on a two fight winning streak. Torres is on a decent winning streak heading into his promotional debut and his streak will continue when he defeats Hermansson.
Bantamweight division action will happen next as Martin Akhtar (3-1-0-1NC) is in action against Toni “Dynamite†Tauru (8-1-1). Akhtar has only won just one of his last three heading into his Cage Warriors debut and he is a veteran of the Superior Challenge MMA promotion. Tauru will make his promotional debut riding an eight fight winning streak and none of those fights have gone past the second round. Tauru is on an amazing winning streak right now and he will add onto that streak in a big way when he defeats Akhtar.
We move to the welterweight division for the next bout as Damir Hadzovic (7-2-0) battles John “The One†Maguire (19-7-0). Hadzovic will be making his Cage Warriors debut in this fight and he does so while on a three fight winning streak. Maguire is a UFC veteran who will be looking to rebound from his first Cage Warriors defeat, which came to Saul Rogers at Cage Warriors 65. Maguire has faced far better competition than what he faces on Saturday Night and that experience will gain him the win.
Up next is a welterweight division clash as Mohsen Bahari (6-1-0) takes on Bruno “BC†Carvalho (15-7-0). Bahari has won two of three under the Cage Warriors banner, with a notable victory coming over Piotr Ptasinski at Cage Warriors Fight Night VII. Carvalho has won just one of three under the Cage Warriors banner, with that lone win coming over Steven Dinsdale at Cage Warriors 52. Carvalho has yet to gain any momentum in Cage Warriors, but that will change when he defeats Bahari.
Headlining this card is a bout for the vacant Cage Warriors Welterweight Title as Sergei Churilov (15-1-0) faces Nicolas Dalby (11-0-0). Churilov is returning to Cage Warriors after a two year absence, last defeating Anatoly Starodubstev at Cage Warriors 46. Dalby will also be making his Cage Warriors debut in this bout and he is a longtime veteran of the Fighter Gala MMA promotion. These are two competitors who are getting a major opportunity in this one, but it will be Dalby leaving undefeated and with the championship.
