CAGE WARRIORS FIGHT NIGHT X PREVIEW

By David Tees on 3/24/2014 5:30 PM

For the third time in March, the Cage Warriors promotion is running another big mixed martial arts event. This event is part of their “Fight Night” series, which is similar to the old Strikeforce “Challengers Series” events. This event is headlined by a key middleweight division bout as Jack Marshman faces Abu Azaitar, also Bellator veteran Norman Paraisy is in action.

Kicking off the action is a middleweight division affair as Hicham Laghazli (0-0-0) competes against Yazan Janeb (0-0-0). Laghazli will be making his professional MMA debut in this fight and he fought all of his amateur fights under the Cage Warriors banner. Janeb will also be making his professional MMA debut as well, fighting in three times more amateur fights that his opponent. Janeb has a lot more amateur experience than Laghazli and that experience will get him a win in his pro debut.

Women's atomweight division action is happening next as Elodie Puget (1-1-0) does battle against Vanessa Rico (0-1-0). Puget will be looking to rebound from her first professional MMA defeat, which came to Simona Soukupova at Kayo MMA IX. Rico is currently winless as a professional MMA fighter, dropping a fight to Catherine Costigan in her pro debut. Puget has been inactive in the last year and change, that will cost her a win as Rico finally gets her first professional MMA victory.

A pair of welterweights will duke it out next as Jarrah “Ziad” Al-Silawi (1-0-0) is in action against Carl “The Bomber” Booth (0-0-0). Al-Silawi made his professional MMA debut back at Cage Warriors 61, defeating James Burrows by knockout. Booth will be making his professional MMA debut in this fight and he did win seven fights as an amateur. Booth looked amazing during his run in the amateur realm and he will start off his pro career on the right foot when he defeats Al-Silawi.

We move to the featherweight division for this encounter as Sam Gilbert (9-3-0) steps up to fight Dave Hill (11-3-0). Gilbert will be looking to build on the momentum of his first Cage Warriors win, which came over Jamie Rogers at Cage Warriors 59. Hill has won just one of three under the Cage Warriors banner, with that lone win coming over Brian Moore at Cage Warriors 59. This fight has been one of the more overlooked fights on the card, but it will be Gilbert leaving with a victory.

The bantamweight division will be featured next as Marcin “BJ” Lasota (7-0-0) dukes it out with Paul Marin (7-3-0). Lasota will be making his Cage Warriors debut in this fight and he is a veteran of the MMA Raju promotion. Marin has won two of four under the Cage Warriors banner, last defeating Spencer Hewitt at Cage Warriors 61. Marin has had a pretty good run thus far in Cage Warriors and that good run will continue when he ends the undefeated streak of Lasota.

Another middleweight division bout is taking place next as Allan “No” Love (11-4-0) stands across the cage from Norman Paraisy (13-3-2-1NC). Love is returning to Cage Warriors after a two year absence, last competing at Cage Warriors Fight Night 6, defeating Ignas Petkus. Paraisy has been undefeated since his Bellator release, which came after a loss to Brett Cooper at Bellator 89. Paraisy has been looking unstoppable in recent fights and his winning streak will continue when he hands Love a loss.

Our first light heavyweight division bout is up next as Mohamed “Felix” Ali (9-5-0) battles Malik Merad (16-11-0). Ali has won three of five under the Cage Warriors banner and he enters the fight riding a two fight winning streak. Merad will make his Cage Warriors debut riding a three fight winning streak and he has already fought once this month. Merad is a little crazy for taking this fight three weeks after his last bout and that will cost him when Ali gets another win.

Up next is a featherweight division attraction as John Cullen (15-7-2) will take on Marat Pekov (10-5-0). Cullen will enter the fight riding a two fight losing streak and he has not won a fight in nearly two full years. Pekov is currently winless in Cage Warriors competition, losing both of his previous fights in the promotion. This is a must win situation for both competitors, but it will be Pekov picking up the much needed victory.

Headlining this card is a middleweight division battle as Abu Azaitar (8-2-0) faces Jack “Hammer” Marshman (14-4-0). Azaitar will be making his Cage Warriors debut in this fight and he does so while riding a three fight winning streak. Marshman will also be making his Cage Warriors debut in this fight and he is a veteran of the BAMMA promotion. The winner of this bout could easily fight themselves in contention for the middleweight belt and it will be Marshman getting that win.
