BELLATOR 115 PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 3/31/2014 7:29 PM

There is a lot of hoopla surrounding the wrestling world this weekend with WWE Wrestlemania 30 on the horizon. However, that does not mean that events like Bellator 115 will go unnoticed amongst those mix of MMA and wrestling fans. The preliminary card should not go unnoticed as well, with Strikeforce veteran James Terry in action.

Kicking off the action is a flyweight division affair as Benito “Golden Boy” Lopez (0-0-0) competes against Oscar Ramirez (2-0-0). Lopez will be making his professional MMA debut in this fight, but he did go undefeated as an amateur. Ramirez will be making his Bellator debut in this fight and he is a veteran of the World Fighting Championships promotion. Ramirez has looked dominant thus far in his young career and his dominance will continue when he spoils the pro debut of Lopez.

A pair of welterweights will collide next as Jason “The Gentleman” Powell (0-0-0) is in action against Sinjen Smith (0-0-0). Powell will be making his professional MMA debut in this fight, but he did go undefeated as an amateur fighter. Smith will also be making his professional MMA debut in this fight and he also had an undefeated run as an amateur. This is always a pick 'em situation with you got two fighters making their pro debuts, but it will be Powell making a successful pro debut.

Heavyweight division action will be happening next as Josh “The Juggernaut” Appelt (10-2-0) does battle against Freddie “Bigg” Aquitania (6-1-0). Appelt is currently undefeated in Bellator competition, defeating both Manny Lara and Josh Lanier respectively. Aquitania will be making his Bellator debut in this fight, but he has earned four wins in the opening round. This fight should be nothing short of a slugfest, but it will be Appelt winning his third bout in Bellator.

More welterweight action is next as Rick “The Holy Terror” Reeves (9-4-0) battles James “Intensity” Terry (13-6-0). Reeves has won three of his last four fights, but he is returning to action after a three-plus year layoff. Terry is a Strikeforce veteran who makes his Bellator debut riding a two fight winning streak, last defeating Sam Liera at an Arise Fighting Championships event. Terry has been on a decent roll since the closure of Strikeforce and that roll will continue when he defeats the inactive Reeves.

Up next is a welterweight division attraction as Justin “Raw Deal” Baesman (14-4-0) takes on Herman Terrado (11-3-0). Baesman competed in the season nine welterweight tournament, losing to Brent Weedman in the opening round. Terrado also competed in the season nine welterweight tournament, losing to Rick Hawn in the first round. The winner of this fight may get another shot in a future tournament and it will be Terrado getting that shot.

Headlining this portion of the card is a light heavyweight division bout as Kelly “The Patriot” Anundson (6-2-0) faces Volkan “Cousin” Oezdemir (10-0-0). Anundson will make his Bellator debut on a three fight winning streak and he has previously fought UFC veteran Francis Carmont. Oezdemir has already competed once in Bellator, having defeated Josh Lanier by TKO at Bellator 100. Oezdemir looked really good in his promotional debut and he will stay undefeated when he defeats Anundson.
