XTRA BLOGGING – SHIMMER 62: I WAS TAGGED INTO ELITE COVERAGE

By David Tees on 4/5/2014 4:55 PM

Welcome to the PWInsiderXtra.com live blog for Shimmer 62, live from the McAlister Auditorium At Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana.

After a 30 minute delay, we kick things off with the SNS Express (Sassy Stephie & Navaeh) versus The Buddy System (Solo Darling & Heidi Lovelace)...Daffney is the ring announcer for the event and The Buddy System is part of Daffney's All-Star Squad in SHINE, conflict of interest here?...Lovelace is starting the come into her own in a big way, she has come a long way since her time in Ohio Valley Wrestling...Stephie & Navaeh team in all the women's promotions and are a very good tandem...Solo looks like she took a trip in the way back machine to the 90's and she stole her ring gear from The Rockers...the fans really hate the SNS Express...Lovelace kicking everybody in the head was awesome...Stephie pins Darling after a double team Alabama slam...good match and the SNS Express are heel heat magnets...

We have Veda Scott versus Leva Bates next...Bates comes out dressed as Gambit from the X-Men...we have a face versus face match here and the crowd loves them both...this is one of Veda's first bouts back since her knee injury a few months back...Bates will be a huge star in the business one day, she is massively over wherever she competes...Scott caught Bates with a beautiful saito suplex for a near fall...Bates pins Scott after a pepsi plunge, the old CM Punk finisher...good match with an interesting faces versus face dynamic built in...

A pair of debuting talents are next as Vanessa Kraven battles Kay Lee Ray...Ray has competed a lot in Pro Wrestling Eve and she is someone Maria Kanellis is raving about in a recent interview...Kraven competes a lot in Japan...this is a bout about power (Kraven) versus speed (Ray)...the fans are behind Ray in this one...Ray nails the much bigger Kraven with a nice springboard kick, that was cool...Ray playing the underdog in this one is really getting the crowd into it...Kraven has some wicked power behind her chops...Kraven practically killing herself with a missed running cannon ball was pretty scary...Ray has a lot of great looking aerial offense, kind of like a Scottish Lita...Ray shocks Kraven with a roll up for the win...decent match, the story was the speed of Ray against the power of Kraven and it was told well...

Non-title action is up as Kimber Lee faces SHINE Champion Ivelisse...every time I see Ivelisse compete, I think back to how stupid the WWE was for releasing her and how stupid TNA was for not signing her...Lenny Leonard joining Dave Prazak and Amber Gertner in the commentation station is a nice way to put over SHINE...Lee is a major part of Combat Zone Wrestling and has really grown into her own in the last year...every women on the card licks her hands before a chop, is that a SHIMMER tradition or something?...Lee competes in SHINE as well, so this bout could lead to a future title shot there... Ivelisse has some brutal looking offense that would scare most men and women alike...Lee almost catches Ivelisse with a release German suplex for a near fall...Ivelisse hits the code red for the win over Lee...good, brutal match with both women destroying each other with kicks and forearm strikes that would make most male competitors flinch...

Nicole Matthews and Madison Eagles cut a promo in the ring that due to the terrible audio, I cannot understand...

Candice LeRae heads to the ring for her Shimmer debut and she takes on Athena...Athena is coming off of a shoulder injury that kept her out of action for six months, she also just won the Absolute Intense Wrestling Women's Title a few weeks back...LeRae is massively over with the crowd...LeRae is the female face of Pro Wrestling Guerrilla and her work in the last year and change has been amazing...LeRae attempting a ballsplex on a woman was hysterical...Athena and LeRae going through a series of rolling cradles was cool and I would've been dizzy after that one to...the fans are behind both women and dueling chants break out...LeRae locking the octopus stretch on a women who just returned from shoulder surgery is just wrong...the “this is awesome” chants from the crowd are well earned for these two...LeRae nailing Athena with the ballsplex into the turnbuckle was cool...Athena apparently has testicles now...Athena with the O-Face to defeat LeRae ends what was an amazing match...

The NCW Femme Fatales Title is on the line as champion Mercedes Martinez defends the gold against Courtney Rush... Martinez is getting a lot of heel heat for refusing the enter the ring and fight Rush...this bout is the first time a different promotions title has been defended on a Shimmer event...this match is a little slower paced than I would have expected going in, but Martinez is doing double duty as she will face Ivelisse at tonight's Dragon Gate USA iPPV... Martinez is as good as ever and its sad that none of the big companies never signed her...Rush catching Martinez in the sharp shooter get the fans hoping we would see a tap out... Martinez catches Rush with a saito suplex to retain the title...it was an OK match, but it never seemed to flow in my opinion...

Unfortunately, the stream for the event dropped for Richard Trionfo, who was doing live coverage for the event on the elite site. I was tagged into do the live coverage after intermission and had to abandon the blog, I apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.
