RESURRECTION FIGHTING ALLIANCE 14 MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 4/9/2014 6:16 PM

With three big MMA events on Friday alone, it is the responsibility of the Resurrection Fighting Alliance to cap off the day with a quality event. The event will be headlined by a bout for the vacant flyweight title as Matt Manzanares battles Junior Maranhao. Also, UFC veteran Tyler Toner competes and top prospect Alan Jouban will be returning to RFA competition.

Kicking off the action is a women's flyweight division bout as Jocelyn “Lights Out” Lybarger (2-1-0) competes against Rosa Acevedo (1-0-0). Lybarger will be looking to rebound from her first professional MMA defeat, which came to Sarah Alpar at a July 2013 King Of The Cage event. Acevedo made her professional MMA debut at Legion Combat Sports 18 in March 2014, defeating Sharice Davids by decision. Lybarger looked very good prior to suffering her first defeat, but she will rebound to defeat Acevedo to end her undefeated streak.

A featherweight division attraction is next as Tyler “Thunder” Toner (15-6-0-1NC) does battle against Daniel “The Snake” Aguiar (9-3-0). Toner is a UFC veteran who is winless under the RFA banner, dropping a fight to Raoni Barcelos at RFA 11. Aguiar will enter the fight riding a two fight winning streak, but he has not competed in over a full year. Toner has fought far better competition than the inactive Aguiar and he will rebound to get his first RFA win.

The welterweight division will be featured next as Alan Jouban (7-2-0) is in action against Armando “Chino” Montoya Jr. (8-3-0). Jouban will be competing for the first time since losing an RFA Welterweight Title bout to Mike Rhodes at RFA X. Montoya Jr. has won six of his last seven bouts, with that lone loss coming to WSOF veteran Tyler Stinson. Jouban will be looking for another opportunity at the gold and he will get it when he defeats Montoya Jr. in this one.

Bantamweight division action is next as Tyler “Lil' Tarzan” Voth (5-1-0) battles Jeimeson “The Minion” Saudino (7-2-0). Voth is coming off of a three fight run in the Bluegrass Brawl promotion, where he fought UFC veteran Josh Ferguson. Saudino has won six of his last seven bouts and he is a veteran of the Bellator Fighting Championships. These are two of the better bantamweight prospects in MMA right now, but it will be Voth pulling out the victory,

Up next is a featherweight division contest as Mark “Tricky” Dickman (8-1-0) takes on Raoni Barcelos (7-0-0). Dickman is returning to RFA after a one year absence, last competing at RFA VI with a victory over Aaron Derrow. Barcelos is coming off of the biggest win of his career, which came over UFC veteran Tyler Toner at RFA 11. Barcelos is riding a big wave of momentum after defeating UFC veteran Tyler Toner and he will continue to add to that momentum when he defeats Dickman.

Headlining this card is a bout for the vacant RFA Flyweight Title as Matt Manzanares (6-2-0) faces Junior Maranhao (9-2-0). Manzanares is competing for the first time since losing an RFA Flyweight Title bout to then champion Zach Makovsky at RFA 11. Maranhao will enter the fight riding a six fight winning streak and only one of his career fights went to a decision. Manzanares fell short in his first attempt at the gold, but his second attempt will be a success when he defeats Maranhao to win the gold.
