Ending another big week of MMA action is yet another big card from the UK-based Cage Warriors Fighting Championships promotion. The event will be headlined by a bantamweight title bout as champion Brett Johns defends the gold against James Brum. Also, there will be plenty of top international propsects competing along with a key WMMA bout.
Kicking off the action is a middleweight division attraction as Simas Norkus (2-2-0) competes against Stuart Tyrie (6-7-0). Norkus will enter the fight riding a two fight losing streak and he is a veteran of the Pain Pit Fight Night promotion. Tyrie will enter the fight riding a four fight losing streak and he has not won a bout in almost two years. This is a must win situation for both competitors in this one and it will be Tyrie getting his career back on track.
A women's bantamweight division bout is up next as Gemma Hewitt (1-0-0) is in action against Agnieszka “Kuma†Niedzwiedz (5-0-0). Hewitt made her professional MMA debut at Shock N' Awe 15, defeating Chloe Hinchliffe by first round TKO. Niedzwiedz has already competed once in Cage Warriors, having defeated Kerry Hughes by decision at Cage Warriors 62. Niedzwiedz has been very dominant thus far in her MMA career and that domination will continue on Saturday when she ends the undefeated streak of Hewitt.
The featherweight division will be featured next as Jamie Pritchard (5-3-0) does battle against Phil Raeburn (5-3-0). Pritchard will enter the fight riding a two fight winning streak and he has already competed twice in 2014. Raeburn is returning to Cage Warriors after a seven-plus year absence, last competing in the promotion at Cage Warriors Showdown in 2006. Raeburn has a big opportunity in his long awaited return to the promotion and he will take advantage of that opportunity when he defeats Pritchard.
Bantamweight division action is on the card next as Shaj Haque (4-1-0) battles Martin “Mr. Pink†McDonough (11-4-0). Haque has won three of four fights under the Cage Warriors banner, most notably defeating Kris Edwards at Cage Warriors 54. McDonough is currently undefeated in Cage Warriors competition and none of those fights went past the second round. This is easily the most overlooked fight on the entire card, but it will be McDonough leaving with the victory.
Up next is a lightweight division affair as Sean “Sexy Curls†Carter (8-1-0) takes on Mario Saeed (5-1-0). Carter has won four of five fights in Cage Warriors, with that lone loss coming to lightweight champion Steven Ray. Saeed will be making his Cage Warriors debut in this fight and he has not competed in just about a year. Carter is quickly building towards another opportunity at the gold and he will get it when he defeats Saeed.
Headlining this card is a bout for the Cage Warriors Bantamweight Title as champion Brett “The Pikey†Johns (9-0-0) defends against James “Job Done†Brum (14-2-0). Johns will be making the first defense of his championship, which he won by defeating Jordan Desborough at Cage Warriors 59. Brum is currently undefeated in Cage Warriors competition and he has previously fought UFC veteran Erik Perez. Brum has had an amazing run thus far in Cage Warriors and that run will get even better when he defeats Johns to win the gold.
